METHOD FOR DISCONNECTION
The present invention relates to a method for disconnecting two fluid-conducting line sections of a medical device which are detachably interconnected, wherein a first line section of the two line sections has at least partially an elastic property. The method comprises the steps of enclosing a fluid volume in the two line sections, generating a reduced pressure in the two line sections, as a result of which elastic deformation from a starting position into a tensioned position takes place in and/or on the first line section, wherein a fluid volume contained in the first line section is lower in the tensioned position than a fluid volume contained in the starting position, and detaching the connection of the line sections, wherein the fluid volume contained in the first line section in the tensioned position increases. Furthermore, the invention relates to a medical device which is configured to carry out a method of this kind.

Conduit tips and systems and methods for use
The present disclosure relates to a rotary blood pump system. The rotary blood pump system may comprise an inflow conduit, an outflow conduit, a control system, and a power source. The present disclosure further relates to various inflow conduit assemblies comprising a conduit tip comprised of metal or polymer having an undulating opening surface that provides improved blood flow and washing properties while minimizing regions susceptible to stagnation, and optionally a resilient tip-protecting cage structure that reduces the risk of conduit tip suction events and suction-related injury of the wall of adjacent blood vessels or other blood containing structures. The present disclosure further relates to various outflow conduit assemblies with a conduit tip comprised of metal or polymer wherein the cross-sectional area of the lumen of the conduit or conduit tip is reduced to generate a localized jet-like fluid flow in a blood vessel segment adjacent to the conduit tip.

Optimizing pumping of variable viscosities via microtextured miniaturized tesla pump
An integrated flow source is a limiting factor in numerous microfluidic applications. In addition to precise gradients and controlling molecular transports, a built-in source of stable and accurate flow can enable novel shear stress modulations for long-term cell culturing studies. The Tesla turbine, when used as a pump on the microfluidic regime, produces stable and accurate fluid gradients by utilizing laminar flow between its rotating discs Utilizing a stereolithography based 3D printer, a tesla pump (Ø10 cm) and associated housing capable of driving a microfluidic gradient is provided having a printed rotor surface topology of the pump in order to enhance pumping of biological fluids like blood at elevated viscosities. The surface topology is tuned via 3D pixilation, and this modulation completely recovered the pressure loss between pumping water at 1 cP versus glycerol solution at 3 cP. As a result, increased fluid viscosities, and even Non-Newtonian viscosities, can be used.

PULMONARY EMBOLISM EXTRACTION DEVICE
A device for extracting arterial and pulmonary embolisms is described herein. The device comprises a suction catheter and a return catheter attached to a reservoir. The reservoir comprises two filters that filter out any unwanted material from the blood. The device may be controlled by a console with a pedal. Blood containing unwanted material is suctioned out of a patient, is filtered in the reservoir, and is returned to the patient. The device prevents blood loss from the patient by returning the blood back to the patient after it is filtered. Furthermore, the filtration system is designed to also remove air from the blood as it is suctioned from the patient.
