In various embodiments, a catheter pump is disclosed herein. The catheter pump can include an elongated catheter body having a distal portion including an expandable cannula having an inlet and an outlet. The expandable cannula can have a delivery profile and an operational profile larger than the delivery profile. An impeller assembly can include an impeller shaft, and an impeller body can include one or more blades. The impeller blades can draw blood into the cannula when rotated. Further, an expandable support can have a mounting portion disposed on the impeller shaft distal of the impeller body and a cannula contact portion for reducing a change in tip gap due to bending of the cannula. The cannula contact portion can be disposed distal of the mounting portion.

Some embodiments of percutaneous ventricular assist devices have a two-part design that includes a housing component and a separately deployable rotatable inner catheter component. The housing component can include an expandable pump housing. The inner catheter can include an expandable pump impeller and an associated flexible drive shaft. The drive shaft can be coupled to a motor located external to the patient. The motor can rotate the drive shaft to spin the pump impeller inside of the pump housing, causing blood to be pumped within the patient. In some embodiments, the pump impeller is inflatable or self-expandable. The two-part percutaneous ventricular assist devices with inflatable or self-expandable pump impellers are designed to have very small delivery profiles. Accordingly, various deployment modalities, including radial artery deployment, are practicable using the two-part percutaneous ventricular assist devices described herein.

CATHETER DEVICE WITH A DRIVE SHAFT COVER

The invention relates to a catheter device, comprising a drive shaft extending from a driving region of the catheter device to a distal end region of the catheter device, a rotor which is attached to the drive shaft in the distal end region and a distal bearing for bearing a distal end of the drive shaft. The distal bearing comprises a drive shaft cover which is configured to cover a section of the drive shaft extending distally of the rotor. On a distal side of the rotor, a radially inner part of the rotor is recessed with respect to radially outer parts of the rotor to form a hollow space surrounding the drive shaft, wherein a proximal end of the drive shaft cover lies in said hollow space.

Heart assist device

A rotary pump housing having a cylindrical bore, a pumping chamber and a motor stator including an electrically conductive coil located within the housing and surrounding a portion of the cylindrical bore. A rotor has a cylindrical shaft with an impeller and one or of magnets located within the shaft that are responsive to the motor stator to drive actuation of the rotor. The housing bore is closely fitted to the outer surface of the shaft forming a hydrodynamic journal bearing with an annular clearance defining a leakage flow path. One or more of radial or axial thrust bearings may be provided to provide rotation stability to the rotor and flow within the leakage flow path. The relative orientation of positions of the inflow, outflow, and leakage flow paths may be varied within the pump, such as to accommodate different intended methods for implantation and/or use.

A method of delivering a medical device includes surrounding a deployment portion of the medical device with a sleeve that includes a sleeve wall and a securement portion positioned thereat and that is actuatable between secured and unsecured states, the sleeve configured to overlay the deployment portion to be delivered together with the deployment portion and to facilitate movement thereof through a delivery lumen during delivery of the medical device and configured to radially move between expanded and constrained configurations via actuation of the securement portion such that the sleeve is in the constrained configuration and the expanded configuration when the securement portion is in the secured and unsecured states respectively; inserting the deployment portion and sleeve together into a body lumen with the sleeve in the secured state; causing the sleeve to transition from the secured state to the unsecured state; and withdrawing the sleeve from the body lumen.

Intravascular blood pump with intake filter

An intravascular blood pump has an intake filter that reduces risk of heart tissue being sucked into an intake port of the pump. The filter defines a plurality of apertures, through which blood flows through the filter. The apertures are sized to prevent ingestion, by the input port, of the heart tissue. The filter includes a plurality of generally helical first struts wound about a longitudinal axis of the filter, and a plurality of second struts. The first and second struts collectively define the plurality of apertures therebetween. The struts may be woven filaments, or the apertures may be defined in a thin film (foil) tube, where remaining material between the apertures form the struts.
