Locations for mobile computers may be adaptively determined in a system which includes a server, a set of mobile computers, and an administrator computer. In such a system, the set of mobile computers may each be programmed with instructions operable to, when executed, transmit multiple forms of location information to the server. In one embodiment, the system operates by determining whether a plurality of devices of a tethered segment are inside or outside a predefined area. The system also operates by determining that a first device of the plurality of devices is outside of the predefined area based at least partially on the determination of whether the plurality of devices are inside or outside the predefined area. The system further operates by transmitting at least one alert notification to at least one device based at least partially on the determination that the first device is outside the predefined area, wherein the alert notification identifies the first device outside the predefined area.

The device may determine whether to stop rebroadcasting the message based on a stop condition and based on the distance or a current location of the device and may calculate a particular coverage area of a rebroadcasted message based on coverage areas of the device and the vehicle. The device may determine, based on not determining to stop rebroadcasting the message and based on the distance or the particular coverage area, a delay time to wait before rebroadcasting the message and may rebroadcast the message after the delay time expires.
Systems and methods for optimizing message notification timing based on electronic content consumption associated with a geographic location
Systems and methods are provided for timing message notifications to be provided to mobile device users based on their geographic locations with respect to geographic areas associated with a threshold level of content consumption. The timing of message notifications may be controlled in order to optimize the chances of delivering targeted content to a mobile device user based on the current geographic location of the user's device relative to a threshold level of content consumption area. As mobile device users may be more likely to launch a client application in a place where other users are currently consuming content, a general message notification sent to the user's device located in a geographic area associated with a threshold level of content consumption, may increase the likelihood that the user will launch the client application and thereby, allow targeted content to be delivered to the user's mobile device.
