A personal mobility device includes a frame connected to at least one wheel, a connection part on the frame, a boarding part connected to the connection part to be tiltable, a first sensor disposed on the frame to measure an inclination of the frame, and a second sensor disposed on the boarding part to measure an inclination of the boarding part.

DECK FOR RIDE-ON DEVICES
20170361203 · 2017-12-21 ·

Ride-on devices are disclosed. The ride-on device may include a deck having a top surface and a bottom surface and at least two wheels attached to the bottom surface of the deck. The deck includes a bulk flexible material having a first stiffness and at least two resilient members extending in a fore-aft direction and having a second stiffness that is greater than the first stiffness. The bulk flexible material may be a polymer, such as a thermoplastic, and the resilient members may be formed of a fiber composite, such as a fiberglass or carbon composite. The resilient members may be formed integral with the base or may be attached in a separate process. One resilient member may extend along an outer edge on a port side of the deck and another resilient member may extend along an outer edge on a starboard side of the deck.

Skateboards with a multi-wheel truck

A multi-wheel truck that minimizes wheel interactions with discontinuous and uneven surfaces. The truck provides a suspension system that absorbs impact force caused by uneven surfaces and a unique attack angle that allows obstacles to be traversed when approached from a wide range of angles.

Steerable wheel assembly incorporating lean-to-steer mechanism with linear or non-linear steering response
11679320 · 2023-06-20 · ·

The present steerable wheel assembly incorporates a lean-to-steer mechanism into an inner race of a roller bearing, while a wheel is mounted to an outer race of the roller bearing. A shaft extending from the mechanism is attached to a body, and the mechanism acts to steer the outer race and the wheel about a vertical steering axis when the shaft is tilted about a horizontal axis. The mechanism can be a pivot joint, providing a linear steering response, or can be a lean-to-steer mechanism that provides a non-linear response where the steering action is not proportionally responsive to tilting over the expected range of tilting.

Standup paddle-board skateboard apparatus
09839835 · 2017-12-12 · ·

A standup paddle-board skateboard apparatus for mimicking the experience of standup paddle-boarding on land. Functional elements of the apparatus may include wheel-cutouts allowing for increased articulation without experiencing wheel-bite, a modified truck angle for improved turning, central handle, and axle cutouts allow for increased board tilt without the axle impacting the board.

Foot-deck-based vehicle with increased potential energy for ollie-type manoeuvers
09833687 · 2017-12-05 · ·

In an aspect, a foot-deck based vehicle is provided, comprising a foot-deck, a front wheel arrangement, a rear wheel arrangement and a biasing member. The foot-deck has a front end and a rear end. The front wheel arrangement is proximate the front end. The rear wheel arrangement is proximate the rear end. The foot-deck has a first foot-deck portion and a second foot-deck portion that is rearward of the first foot-deck portion and that is movable relative to the first foot-deck portion. The second foot-deck portion extends rearward of the rear wheel arrangement. The biasing member biases the second foot-deck portion towards a home position relative to the first foot-deck portion. The second foot-deck portion is moveable from the home position downward to a biased position so as to store potential energy in the biasing member such that the biasing member urges the first foot-deck portion upward.

Skateboard truck

A truck includes a base plate, a hanger, a kingpin, and a bushing assembly. The base plate includes a coupling portion and a contact portion. The kingpin is disposed within a portion of the hanger to rotatably couple the hanger to the base plate. The bushing assembly includes at least one bushing disposed in a recess of the contact portion and in contact with the hanger. The bushing assembly including a bushing adjustment coupled to at least one of the base plate or the hanger and configured to selectively engage the at least one bushing to transition the bushing assembly between a first configuration in which the at least one bushing exerts a first force in response to rotation of the hanger and a second configuration in which the at least one bushing exerts a second force different from the first force in response to rotation of the hanger.

Skateboard truck with inverted king pin and integrated kingpin fastener
11491389 · 2022-11-08 · ·

A skateboard truck includes a metal bolt called a kingpin and a threaded fastener, called a hex nut, which when combined hold the two main components of a truck together: the baseplate, which is mounted to the bottom surface of the skateboard deck; and the turning part of the truck called the hanger, which is mounted onto the baseplate by means of the kingpin, and affixed tightly into the baseplate by means of a threaded hex nut. Two bushings placed along the shaft of the kingpin and on either side of a flange protruding from the hanger hold the hanger in place by the tightening of the kingpin into the threaded shaft nut fastener. The kingpin is oriented such that a threaded portion of the kingpin (on an end opposite a bolt head portion) is generally facing towards a bottom surface of the skateboard deck.

Variable length skateboard

A human transportation device in the form of a variable length skateboard. The variable length skateboard provides a short embodiment allowing the rider greater handling and stopping ability and a long embodiment providing the rider with increased speed ability. The long and short embodiments can quickly and easily be transitioned between at any time or place by the insertion or extraction of at least one removable center deck section. The deck sections are coupled using thumb screw type fasteners and coupler plates thereby removing a need for tools to make the conversion between embodiments. The variable length skateboard provides its owner with multiple embodiments without having to purchase multiple skateboards.

Electric skateboard with strain-based controls and methods
11484775 · 2022-11-01 · ·

An electric weight sensing skateboard using one or more strain gauge systems to detect rider-induced strain on one or both trucks, an inertial sensor to detect accelerations and balance position, and wheel speed sensors. Throttle is controlled by rider position, for example, lean forward to increase speed, lean back to slow down. Several drive methods include a driver position detection velocity setpoint control, torque setpoint control, and direct velocity/torque control. A throttle remote is note required. Rider weight activates the motors.
