The method includes preparing a nickel-manganese-aluminum precursor having an atomic fraction of nickel of 90 atm % or greater in all transition metals, and mixing the nickel-manganese-aluminum precursor, a cobalt raw material, and a lithium raw material and heat treating the mixture.

Set forth herein are compositions comprising A.(LiBH.sub.4).B.(LiX).C.(LiNH.sub.2), wherein X is fluorine, bromine, chloride, iodine, or a combination thereof, and wherein 0.1≤A≤3, 0.1≤B≤4, and 0≤C≤9 that are suitable for use as solid electrolyte separators in lithium electrochemical devices. Also set forth herein are methods of making A.(LiBH.sub.4).B.(LiX).C.(LiNH.sub.2) compositions. Also disclosed herein are electrochemical devices which incorporate A.(LiBH.sub.4).B.(LiX).C.(LiNH.sub.2) compositions and other materials.

Silicate compounds as solid Li-ion conductors
Solid-state lithium ion electrolytes of lithium silicate based composites are provided which contain an anionic framework capable of conducting lithium ions. An activation energy for lithium ion migration in the solid state lithium ion electrolytes is 0.5 eV or less and room temperature conductivities are greater than 10.sup.0.5 S/cm. Composites of specific formulae are provided and methods to alter the composite materials with inclusion of aliovalent ions shown. Lithium batteries containing the composite lithium ion electrolytes are also provided.
Silicate compounds as solid Li-ion conductors
Solid-state lithium ion electrolytes of lithium silicate based composites are provided which contain an anionic framework capable of conducting lithium ions. An activation energy for lithium ion migration in the solid state lithium ion electrolytes is 0.5 eV or less and room temperature conductivities are greater than 10.sup.0.5 S/cm. Composites of specific formulae are provided and methods to alter the composite materials with inclusion of aliovalent ions shown. A negative active material for a rechargeable lithium battery includes a carbon-based active material including highly crystalline natural graphite and artificial graphite. The carbon-based active material has a peak intensity ratio (P2/P4) of about 0.3 to about 0.4, wherein P2 refers to the 101 peak of a rhombohedral crystal grain and P4 refers to the 101 peak of a hexagonal crystal grain, as measured by X-ray diffraction.
