Consumer choice for broadband application and content services
Novel tools and techniques might provide for implementing application, service, and/or content access control. Based at least in part on a consumer's choice of applications, services, content, and/or content providersparticular in exchange for a subsidy on content and/or network access fees provided to the consumer by chosen content providers, a computing system may determine whether access to applications, services, and/or content not associated with the chosen content providers (other content) should be allowed or restricted. If restricted, the computing system might utilize various network access techniques and/or technologies to block the consumer's access to the other content, to allow access to the other content on a charge per access basis, or to allow access to the other content at reduced network access speeds. In some embodiments, an access provider (e.g., an Internet service provider, etc.) might perform both determination and implementation of content access and restriction.
Service state transition method and apparatus
Embodiments of the present application relate to the field of communications technologies, and provide a service state transition method and an apparatus, to implement a process of an automatic state transition between different service statuses. The method includes: obtaining a target service status and a current service status of a network service; determining a first transition condition for transiting the network service from the current service status to the target service status, where the first transition condition includes status information of a first dependent object on which execution of the network service depends; and transiting, based on the first transition condition, the first dependent object from a current first service status to a second service status indicated in the status information of the first dependent object, to enable the network service to be automatically transited from the current service status to the target service status.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SELECTING A BANDWIDTH PREDICTION SOURCE
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, obtaining, from a first source of information, a first bandwidth prediction, wherein the first bandwidth prediction is based upon historical bandwidth data that had been provided by a plurality of devices; obtaining, from a second source of information, a second bandwidth prediction, wherein the second bandwidth prediction is based upon network measurements, and wherein the network measurements are other than the historical bandwidth data that had been provided by the plurality of devices; selecting as a source of a future bandwidth prediction one of the first source of information and the second source of information, wherein the selecting is based upon a comparison of each of the first bandwidth prediction and the second bandwidth prediction to an actually obtained bandwidth of the device. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Elementary module of a system for distributing an audiovisual content
An elementary module of a workflow of a system for distributing audiovisual contents is disclosed. Content is received as a succession of segments which are distributed following a transmission of a request and are obtained by an application of a workflow to a portion of a content. The elementary module executes a processing operation of a predefined type of the workflow and comprises: a variable plurality of processing units available for executing the processing operation of the predefined type, the elementary module regularly obtaining information representing each processing unit added to or removed from the plurality, an allocation module able to manage allocations or disallocations of processing units of the plurality according to requests for first data received; and a load management module able to choose, for each request received, at least one processing unit among the processing units allocated for processing second data in order to obtain first data requested.
Head-end system for terrestrial broadcast based on virtualized broadcast frame work
A head-end system for terrestrial broadcast based on a virtualized broadcast framework includes a media configured to store a broadcast head-end virtualized component (BHVC) corresponding to all pieces of software related to a head-end device for transmission of ATSC 3.0 terrestrial broadcast, a plurality of worker nodes configured to transfer data to an exciter of a transmitting station by installing the BHVC stored in the media and performing a function of a typical head-end, and a mater node configured to monitor the plurality of worker nodes while storing and managing a container for installing the BHVC stored in the media in the worker nodes, and thus, modularizes a series of functions related to broadcast transmission in software units and effectively provides a broadcast service in a public or private cloud environment with departing from a broadcast device based on hardware or dedicated software.
PER-PACKET TYPE PACKET LOSS MANAGEMENT
A device implementing a system for packet loss management may include a memory and at least one processor configured to identify a plurality of categories of packets provided for transmission to an electronic device. The at least one processor may be further configured to determine a respective packet loss value for a respective category of the plurality of categories of packets. The at least one processor may be further configured to identify a particular category of the plurality of categories of packets for which the determined respective packet loss value satisfies a packet loss condition. The at least one processor may be further configured to adjust subsequent transmission of packets in the particular category of packets based at least in part on the packet loss condition being satisfied by the determined respective packet loss value for the particular category of packets.
SECURED DISTRIBUTED MESH NETWORK
In accordance with some embodiments, a method of operating a user-equipment (UE) gateway device to establish access for an end-point device coupled to the UE gateway device includes receiving a connection request from the end-point device; creating a registry entry with a digital identity for the end-point device in a security registry of the UE gateway device, transmitting a second registry entry derived from the registry entry to a network device coupled to the UE gateway device, recording activities with devices in communications with the end-point device into the registry entry, and locking the registry entry in the security registry after a set period of time. Security registries are recorded in network devices and communications with then end-point device may be monitored and alerts provided according to the registry entries for the end-point devices in the security registries.
Measuring response trends in a digital television network
Techniques and systems for providing a trend server outside a content provider network to communicate with the content provider network to build a trend record based on responses received from the content provider network for monitoring certain activity trend or tendency in the content provider network and provide an alert when the content provider network behaves abnormally.
Systems and methods for improving quality of service while streaming code-agnostic content
Systems and methods are described for a media guidance application (e.g., implemented on a user device) that improves quality of service while streaming code-agnostic content by optimizing buffering based on bit rate.
Global capacity scaling
Dynamic scaling of a service in a CDN is performed using content request response times from service instances executing in regions in the CDN. Response times for similar content requests can be aggregated for each region. A cost calculation for each region may be evaluated in conjunction with the associated response time by the service instantiations to decide whether the service should be scaled up or down.
