If a first signal is detected, a notification screen for prompting a user to perform a specification operation on the communication apparatus is displayed, and if a second signal is detected after displaying the notification screen, when the second signal corresponds to the specification operation, information of the communication apparatus corresponding to the second signal is displayed. If the first signal and the second signal are both detected, a second notification screen for prompting the user to perform a different second specification operation is displayed, and if a third signal is detected after displaying the second notification screen, when the third signal corresponds to the second specification operation, information of the communication apparatus corresponding to the third signal is displayed.

Embodiments of a fax system with adaptive protocol selection, and methods for such a system, are disclosed herein. Embodiments of a fax system may be adapted to selectively configure the protocol (both the type of protocol or aspects of a particular protocol) used in association with the transmission or reception of a specific fax. The configuration of the protocol utilized can be based on one or more attributes associated with a sender or a destination. The fax can then be transmitted or received according to those configuration parameters.

A method of pairing a handheld printer/scanner device with a barcode printer acting as the host is disclosed. The pairing will further enhance the functionality of the host barcode printer. Specifically, the pairing process is initiated when a printer process that requires a handheld printer/scanner device is initiated. The method enables a handheld printer/scanner device to print to a host barcode printer, and also enables the host barcode printer to receive a barcode scan of the case label of received food items and retain information from the barcode scan for future printing of food freshness labels.
