An apparatus for carrier alignment in a vacuum chamber is described. The apparatus includes a support extending in a first direction in the vacuum chamber, a magnetic levitation system configured to transport a first carrier in the first direction in the vacuum chamber, the magnetic levitation system comprising at least one magnet unit, and an alignment system for aligning the first carrier. The stator and the transport element are magnetically coupled by means of the stationary magnets and actuating magnets, and the transport device is designed to transport the transport element relative to the stator by the control positioning and/or orientation of the actuating magnets by means of the actuating magnets.

The apparatus has at least one damping unit, which is fixed to the carrier or to the base.

An adsorption device includes a substrate, a plurality of magnetic films, and a plurality of magnets. The substrate defines a plurality of receiving grooves spaced apart from each other. Each receiving groove defines a bottom wall and a side wall. Each magnetic film is in one receiving groove and covers the bottom wall and the side wall. The magnetic films are made of magnetic material. Each magnet is in one receiving groove. Each magnetic film is between the substrate and one magnet, a large number of magnetized LEDs of very small size are attracted on a one-to-one basis to the receiving grooves for transfer and placement of the LEDs onto a display panel which is in the course of being manufactured.

An apparatus for contactless transportation of a device in a vacuum processing system is described. The apparatus includes: a magnetic transportation arrangement for providing a magnetic levitation force (F.sub.L) for levitating the device, the magnetic transportation arrangement comprising one or more active magnetic units; a sensor for monitoring a motion of the device, and a controller configured for controlling the one or more active magnetic units based on a signal provided by the sensor.
