Characterizing an optical element
A method and apparatus for characterizing an optical element. The optical element is part of a laser and is mounted on a translation stage to scan the optical element transverse to an intracavity laser beam. A performance characteristic of the laser is recorded as a function of position of the optical element.
OPTICAL ASSEMBLY FOR REDUCING A SPECTRAL BANDWIDTH OF AN OUTPUT BEAM OF A LASER
An optical assembly reduces a spectral bandwidth of an output beam of a laser. The assembly includes a beam-expanding optical unit within a laser resonator. The latter serves to increase a beam cross section of a resonator-internal laser beam in at least one expansion cross-sectional dimension such that at least one resonator-internal expansion laser beam section arises. The assembly also includes an optical grating in a retroreflective arrangement for the resonator-internal laser beam. A beam-limiting stop acts in the expansion cross-sectional dimension and is arranged in the beam path of the expansion laser beam section. This yields an optical assembly in which unwanted thermal effects on account of optical components of the optical assembly heating during laser operation due to a local power density of the resonator-internal laser beam are reduced or avoided.

Furthermore, a method of generating laser pulses by Kerr lens based mode locking is described, wherein a loss-modulation device (31, 32) is used for both of introducing a Ken effect in the laser resonator (10) and modulating the power loss.
Laser Oscillator System Having Optical Element For Injection Seeding and Method of Manufacture
The present application is directed to various architectures of a laser oscillator which include an optical element, reflective, refractive, or diffractive injection device for injection seeding and/or locking a laser oscillator.
Dual-comb generation from a single laser cavity via spectral subdivision
A method for generating a single-cavity dualcomb or multicomb for laser spectroscopy, the method comprising the steps of providing a laser system comprising a pump source, a gain medium, and a resonator having a spectral filter; spectrally filtering, by the spectral filter, light in the resonator and attenuating, in particular blocking, by the spectral filter, one or more wavelength bands at least one of which being located completely within the gain bandwidth of the laser system such that two or more at least partially separated spectral regions are provided; mode-locking the two or more at least partially separated spectral regions.
Pulsed lasers based on spatiotemporal mode-locking
The technology disclosed in this patent document allows mode locking of both selected longitudinal and transverse modes to produce laser pulses. The laser light produced based on such mode locking exhibits a 3-dimensional mode profile based on the locked longitudinal and transverse modes.
AMPLITUDE-MODULATED LASER
Systems and methods are described for producing an amplitude-modulated laser pulse train. The laser pulse train can be used to cause fluorescence in materials at which the pulse trains are directed. The parameters of the laser pulse train are selected to increase fluorescence relative to a constant-amplitude laser pulse train. The amplitude-modulated laser pulse trains produced using the teachings of this invention can be used to enable detection of specific molecules in applications such as gene or protein sequencing.
Laser device, method for controlling laser device, and mass spectroscope
A laser device for laser resonance ionization includes a wavelength variable grating-type titanium-doped sapphire laser and includes a titanium (Ti) doped titanium sapphire crystal disposed within a resonator. The titanium sapphire crystal is fixedly disposed on a stage. The titanium-doped sapphire crystal can be moved in the optical axis direction by the stage, thereby changing the position of the titanium-doped sapphire crystal. The switching between the wideband mode and the high-output mode can be performed by changing the position of the titanium-doped sapphire crystal.
PASSIVELY Q-SWITCHED LASER AND LASER SYSTEM FOR RANGING APPLICATIONS
A passively, Q-switched laser operating at an eye safe wavelength of between 1.2 and 1.4 microns is described. The laser may operate at a lasing wavelength of 1.34 microns and use a gain element of Nd:YVO.sub.4 and a saturable absorber element of V:YAG. The position of the resonator axial mode spectrum relative to a gain peak of the gain element is controlled to yield desired characteristics in the laser output.
FEMTOSECOND FIBER OSCILLATOR
An optical assembly provides dispersion control, modelocking, spectral filtering, and/or the like in a laser cavity. For example, the optical assembly may comprise a diffraction grating pair arranged to temporally and spatially disperse a beam on a forward pass through the optical assembly, a reflective device at an end of the optical assembly, and a focusing optic arranged to create a beam waist at the reflective device. The beam waist created at the reflective device may cause the beam to be inverted on a reverse pass through the optical assembly, and a temporal dispersion and a spatial dispersion of the beam may be doubled on the reverse pass through the optical assembly to form a temporally and spatially dispersed output from the optical assembly.
