A SUTURING DEVICE

A suturing device (1) for suturing parts (5,6) together of a lumen (8) with one or more sutures (3) comprises an actuator (34) having a handle (33) and first and second operating elements (60,68) slideable longitudinally on the handle (33). A tubular shield (35) extends from the handle (33), and a cannula (40) slideable in the tubular shield (35) is connected to the first operating element (60) for urging the cannula (40) between a withdrawn state within the tubular shield (35) to an extended state extending from the tubular shield (35). An elongated push rod (52) slideable in the cannula (40) terminating in a distal hook (55) is coupled to and operated by the second operating element (68). Anchor elements (22) of the suture (3) are located in the cannula (40), and are sequentially urged therefrom by the push rod (52), as the cannula (40) sequentially pierces through the parts (5,6). A loop (26) of the suture (3) is engaged by the hook (55), which is then withdrawn into the tubular shield (35) for engaging the adjustment element (25) of the suture (3) against an abutment face (38) of the tubular shield (35) for in turn drawing the anchor elements (22), and in turn the parts (5,6) of the colon (8) together. The adjustment element retains the parts (5,6) together.

Systems, assemblies, and methods are provided herein for fastening of one bone to another bone using one or more sutures. The features herein enable such fastening with a more accurate strength, and which can be more easily fastened in-situ.

ENDOSCOPIC NEEDLE ASSEMBLY

A needle and suture assembly is provided for use with an endoscopic suturing device with a needle holder arm. The needle assembly includes a needle tip and a needle body. The needle tip has a sharp end. The needle body is tubular and has first and second ends and flexible tab retainers adjacent the second end for retaining the needle body relative to the needle holder arm. The tab retainers elastically deform to allow the needle body to be released from the needle holder arm upon application of force therebetween. The needle body has a suture opening located between the first end and the retainers. A suture extends into the suture opening of the needle body and is fixed therein.

Suture passer systems and methods for tongue or other tissue suspension and compression

Suture passer systems for tissue suspension and tissue compression, and more particularly for tongue suspension, are described. The system can include at least a first elongate tubular body or shaft, a needle having a lateral bias carried by the elongate body, and a retrieval element operably connected to the elongate tubular body. The needle can have a substantially straight configuration when located within the elongate tubular body, and be configured to exit an opening at or near a distal end of the elongate tubular body and assume a laterally biased or curved shape to form a path through tissue. The needle is configured to carry a suture. The retrieval element can be configured to retrieve the suture carried by the needle after the needle has formed a curved or otherwise angled path through tissue. The system can also include one or more bone anchors to secure the suture loops. Methods of placing one or more suture loops into tissue, such as the base of the tongue, are also described.

Fixation members, assemblies, and related systems and methods

A suture anchor for fixation within an anatomical structure includes an actuation member in contact with an anchor body at a first location thereof. The anchor body is elongate along a direction of elongation and defines a central axis. In a neutral configuration, the anchor body is flat and defines a thickness along a transverse direction and a width along a lateral direction, the width being greater than the thickness. The anchor body has first and second tails that are braided together along a portion of the actuation member from the first location to a second location of the anchor body. The actuation member is configured to apply a force to the braided anchor body so as to actuate the anchor body in a manner increasing its maximum thickness along a second direction that is angularly offset from the direction of elongation.

A catheter device for heart repair comprises a leaflet anchor for placement in a leaflet of a heart valve, wherein the leaflet anchor is coupled to the artificial chord; a mechanical gripper device for grasping the leaflet of the heart valve, wherein the gripper device comprises a leaflet anchor channel for housing the leaflet anchor in a folded configuration; and a U-rod wire with a U-shaped rod at one end of the wire, with the free end of the U-shape abutting the end of the leaflet anchor; the gripper device and leaflet anchor being arranged such that when the gripper device grasps the leaflet, the U-rod wire can be used to push the leaflet anchor out of the leaflet anchor channel to pierce the leaflet and form the leaflet anchor into an unfolded configuration permitting hooked formations of the leaflet anchor to secure the leaflet anchor in the leaflet.

Methods and devices for intracorporeal bonding of implants with thermal energy

The present invention provides a method for stabilizing a fractured bone. The method includes positioning an elongate rod in the medullary canal of the fractured bone and forming a passageway through the cortex of the bone. The passageway extends from the exterior surface of the bone to the medullary canal of the bone. The method also includes creating a bonding region on the elongate rod. The bonding region is generally aligned with the passageway of the cortex. Furthermore, the method includes positioning a fastener in the passageway of the cortex and on the bonding region of the elongate rod and thermally bonding the fastener to the bonding region of the elongate rod while the fastener is positioned in the passageway of the cortex.
