DUAL COUPLING REAMER HANDLE
20200015829 · 2020-01-16 ·

A surgical tool handle comprising a tool attachment coupling having locking piston subassembly is described. The attachment coupling is designed with a bayonet-type fitting having a series of coupling grooves constructed to accept surgical cutting tools having an attachment member of different cross-sectional geometries. More specifically, the attachment coupling comprises a coupling groove that accepts tool attachment members having both curved and rectangular cross-sectional geometries. In addition, a locking piston subassembly biases against the surgical tool attachment member received in the coupling groove to further stabilize the tool during a surgical procedure.

Self Leveling Patellar Drill Guide

A patella drill guide includes a head having a convexly curved outer surface. Cylindrical channels extend through the head. The drill guide also includes collar having an inner surface that defines a concavity corresponding in shape to the convexly curved outer surface. The inner surface of the collar is fitted to the outer surface of the head to define an articular joint.

A guide operates in the creation of a bone spur to facilitate harvesting a quadriceps tendon and includes an end having a width equal to a desired graft width with a terminal slope equal to a cutting angle desired. In use, the guide may be initially positioned parallel to the femur to form guide cuts in the patella. The guide is then rotated ninety degrees to allow an angled cut at the guide cut. The guide is again rotated, this time one hundred eighty degrees and a second angled cut made on the other guide cut. A final lateral cut is made and the bone spur may be lifted from the patella.

Method of enhancing interdigitation of bone cement to bone for attachment of prosthesis to bone during arthroplasty

A method of attaching prosthetic implants to bone, applicable to tibia, patella, acetabulum, glenoid, or femur, includes trimming an articular surface of the bone, leaving a trimmed surface. Holes are punched or drilled into the surface in a predetermined array before polymethyl methacrylate bone cement is used to attach the surface to the implant. In an embodiment, the holes are punched by placing a punch-plate with sharpened punch spikes on the surface, and striking the punch plate to drive punches into the trimmed surface. In another embodiment, holes are drilled using a drilling template with predrilled guidance holes placed on the surface of the bone. In another embodiment, holes are drilled by positioning a robotic drill over the trimmed surface; adjusting a drilling pattern of the robotic drill according to the trimmed surface; and using the robotic drill to drill holes of predetermined depth according to the drilling pattern.

A cutting assembly for cutting a tapered cut in a hard material includes a cutting tool and a cutting guide, the cutting tool including a cutting profile shaped to enable the creation of a tapered cut in said hard material, the cutting guide co-operating with the cutting tool and including a distal end which fits a cut profile formed by the cutting tool and a cutting guide opening which guides a secondary cutter introduced therein to complete the tapered cut.

Orthopedic surgical pliers-like tool for holding and gripping a patella bone

The present invention relates to an orthopedic surgical pliers-like tool (1) for performing surgery on the patella bone, comprising: at least a couple of jaws (2, 3) coupled to corresponding handle members (12, 13) pivotally mounted with a hinge bolt (5) in relation with one another; a distal clamp portions (8, 9) on each jaw (2, 3) for gripping and holding at least the periphery of a patella bone; an intermediate force transmission mechanism (4) between the tool handle members (12, 13) and the jaws (2, 3); a couple of arms (20, 30) in said intermediate force transmission mechanism (4) structurally independent from the handle members (12, 13) and interposed between the handle members (12, 13) and the jaws (2, 3); an elastic member (25, 35) in each arm (20, 30) for coupling each arm to a corresponding handle member (12, 13) in a first linking point (38, 39); a second more distal linking point (31, 33) in each arm (20, 30) engaging a corresponding distal end (43, 42) of a handle member (12,13); the first linking point (38, 39) of one arm (20, 30) and the second linking point (31, 33) of the other arm being cross linked to the same handle member (12, 13).

ACETABULAR/PATELLAR/GLENOID/CALCAR REAMER CUTTING TOOTH ARRANGMENT WITH DEPTH-OF-CUT CONTROL FEATURE

An orthopaedic reamer includes a shell and a cutting tooth arrangement formed in the shell. The cutting tooth arrangement includes a cutting tooth having a predefined profile with a cutting edge having a cutting depth, and a depth-of-cut feature positioned forward of the cutting tooth, relative to a direction of movement of the shell at the location of the cutting tooth. The depth-of-cut feature has a control depth which controls a cutting depth of the cutting tooth during surgery.

Thermally Sensitive Retention Mechanism For Orthopedic Cutting Instruments

The present invention is directed at a thermally sensitive retention mechanism for orthopedic cutting instruments. More specifically, the present invention incorporates structural engagement features into a rotational orthopedic cutting instrument that transfers torque from a driver to a cutting component and which upon heating result in disengagement of the cutting component from the driver portion.

SURGICAL GUIDANCE SYSTEM AND METHOD

A surgical system includes a surgical device, a surgical tool coupled to the surgical device, a user interface, and a control system. The control system is configured to identify a target point or target region of an anatomy of a patient, generate a virtual object based on the target point or target region, the virtual object comprising a funnel-shaped boundary having a central axis substantially aligned with the target point or target region, and control the surgical device to constrain the surgical tool from penetrating the funnel-shaped boundary.
