Selective micro device transfer to receiver substrate
A method of selectively transferring micro devices from a donor substrate to contact pads on a receiver substrate. Micro devices being attached to a donor substrate with a donor force. The donor substrate and receiver substrate are aligned and brought together so that selected micro devices meet corresponding contact pads. A receiver force is generated to hold selected micro devices to the contact pads on the receiver substrate. The donor force is weakened and the substrates are moved apart leaving selected micro devices on the receiver substrate. Several methods of generating the receiver force are disclosed, including adhesive, mechanical and electrostatic techniques.

Substrate bonding apparatus, substrate pairing apparatus, and semiconductor device manufacturing method
According to one embodiment, a controller is configured to calculate a matching rate of grid shapes between each semiconductor wafer of a first semiconductor wafer group and each semiconductor wafer of a second semiconductor wafer group, and generate pairing information, into which combinations of semiconductor wafers used in calculation of matching rates are registered when the matching rates fall within a predetermined range. Further, the controller is configured to select a first semiconductor wafer to be held by a first semiconductor wafer holder from the first semiconductor wafer group, and select a second semiconductor wafer from semiconductor wafers of the second semiconductor wafer group, which are paired with the first semiconductor wafer, with reference to the pairing information.

According to one embodiment, there is provided a substrate bonding apparatus including a first chucking stage, a second chucking stage, and an alignment unit. The first chucking stage is configured to chuck a first substrate. The second chucking stage is disposed facing the first chucking stage. The second chucking stage is configured to chuck a second substrate. The alignment unit is configured to be inserted between the first chucking stage and the second chucking stage. The alignment unit includes a base body, a first detection element, and a second detection element. The base body includes a first main face and a second main face opposite to the first main face. The first detection element is disposed on the first main face. The second detection element is disposed on the second main face.
Micro device arrangement in donor substrate
This disclosure is related to arranging micro devices in the donor substrate by either patterning or population so that there is no interfering with unwanted pads and the non-interfering area in the donor substrate is maximized. This enables to transfer the devices to receiver substrate with fewer steps.
