NIR-inert substrates comprising bis-oxodihydroindolylen-benzodifuranones

A method for producing infra-red inert substrates, including molded polymeric articles, films, fibers and coatings and other organic and inorganic materials, by incorporating into the substrate or onto the surface of the substrate an effective amount of a dispersed bis-oxodihydroindolylen-benzodifuranone colorant. The thus obtained, also claimed substrates so produced are reflective and transparent to much of the near infra red radiation not reflected. There are multiple applications for cases of devices comprising electronic components, outdoor construction elements, outdoor furniture, automotive, marine or aerospace parts, laminates, artificial leather or textile materials, as well as in polychrome printing processes and optical fibers. The thus obtained substrates can also be subjected to laser welding. New bis-oxo-dihydroindolylen-benzodifuranone compounds are also claimed.

Ground Calcium Carbonate Composites for Storage Articles and Method of Making Same
20170225427 · 2017-08-10 ·

The present invention is directed to an environmentally friendly composite structure and storage article fabricated therefrom. The composite structure includes a fiber-containing layer, such as a fiberboard layer or other layer having fibers from natural and/or synthetic sources, and a ground calcium carbonate-containing layer covering the fiber-containing layer. The ground calcium carbonate-containing layer is substantially continuously bonded to the fiber-containing layer along the surface of the fiber-containing layer. The fiber-containing layer and ground calcium carbonate-containing layer can be shaped, sized and manufactured such that the composite structure formed therefrom is capable of being shaped to form the storage article. The composite structure has advantages in that it has a high degree of pliability and flexibility that is increased over the pliability of the fiber-containing layer alone, which renders it highly attractive to consumers. The composite structure further has tensile strength and other characteristics that allow it to be readily machined into desired storage article forms, such as box and carton forms.

Photoluminescence-Enhanced Sandwich Structure of Luminescent Films and Method

A sandwich structure for enhancement of photoluminescence (PL) from luminescent films and the corresponding preparation method are disclosed. The sandwich structure comprises a support, a luminescent film grown on the support, and a single-layer close-packed microsphere array deposited onto the luminescent film. The microspheres have high transmittance excitation light and emitted light, respectively. The low price of dielectric microspheres is beneficial to industrial applications. The stable chemical properties of dielectric microspheres make PL enhanced in a long term. Both metal and non-metal materials can be used as the support in the sandwich structure. These features significantly improve the technique of PL enhancement for luminescent films.
