NOZZLE ASSEMBLY FOR A FLOW CYTOMETRY SYSTEM AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURE

A method of sorting cells including magnetically coupling a nozzle assembly to a flow cytometer in a predetermined orientation to form a fluid stream having a sheath fluid and a sample fluid. Particles within the sample fluid are oriented and then interrogated at an inspection zone to produces signals representative of emitted or reflected electromagnetic radiation. The electromagnetic radiation is analyzed to classify the cells and the cells are sorted according to their classification.

An integrated semiconductor heating assembly includes a semiconductor substrate, a chamber formed therein, and an exit port in fluid communication with the chamber, allowing fluid to exit the chamber in response to heating the chamber. The integrated heating assembly includes a first heating element adjacent the chamber, which can generate heat above a selected threshold and bias fluid in the chamber toward the exit port. A second heating element is positioned adjacent the exit port to generate heat above a selected threshold, facilitating movement of the fluid through the exit port away from the chamber. Addition of the second heating element reduces the amount of heat emitted per heating element and minimizes thickness of a heat absorption material toward an open end of the exit port. Since such material is expensive, this reduces the manufacturing cost and retail price of the assembly while improving efficiency and longevity thereof.

Method for fabricating fluid ejection device

Disclosed is a method for fabricating a fluid ejection device. The method includes forming a drive circuitry layer on a substrate. The method further includes fabricating at least one fluid ejection element on the substrate. Furthermore, the method includes forming at least one slot within a top portion of the substrate, and forming at least one fluid feed trench within a bottom portion of the substrate. Each fluid feed trench of the at least one fluid feed trench is in fluid communication with one or more slots of the at least one slot. Additionally, the method includes laminating a flow feature layer and a nozzle plate over the substrate having the at least one slot and the at least one fluid feed trench formed therewithin. Further disclosed is a fluid ejection device fabricated using the aforementioned method.

A method of manufacturing a nozzle assembly may include the step of over molding a nozzle housing, or a portion of a nozzle housing, onto at least one nozzle component, such as an injection tube. Nozzle assemblies and flow cytometers incorporating nozzle assemblies may include any combination of straight smooth injection tubes, improved features for securing a nozzle assembly, improved features for debubbling a nozzle assembly, and aggressive orienting geometries. A method of sorting cells may include the step of magnetically coupling a nozzle assembly with a flow cytometer.

Manufacturing method for structure and manufacturing method for liquid ejecting head

In a structure such as a liquid ejecting head configured to cover an opening of a base with a covering member, the present invention alleviates the generation of a warp on the structure or the base even if the covering member is hardened and shrunk. The structure includes the base and the covering member attached onto the base. A manufacturing method for the structure includes: a first step of attaching the covering member having flexibility onto the base in such a manner as to cover an opening of the hole formed at the base and a second step of hardening the covering member attached onto the base. In the first step, the covering member is attached onto the base in a state in which a non-stuck portion of the covering member, covering the opening of the base, is slack.

Method of making a fluid structure having compression molded fluid channel

A method of making a fluid channel in a printhead structure includes positioning a printhead die on a carrier; compression molding the die into a molded printhead structure; compression molding a first segment of a fluid channel into the molded printhead structure simultaneously with compression molding the die; and materially ablating a second segment of the fluid channel to couple the channel with a fluid feed hole in the die.
