Automated weld repair of combustor liners

Aspects of the disclosure are directed to repairing or restoring a liner associated with a combustor of an aircraft engine. The liner is at least partially stripped of at least one detail. An automated welding operation is applied to the liner. A coating of the liner on a cold side of the liner is retained on the liner during the welding operation.

Trunnion hole repair method utilizing interference fit inserts

The present application discloses a method for repairing a damaged counterbore in a variable vane shroud. A layer of base material is removed from the vane shroud adjacent the counterbore such that a damaged portion of the counterbore is removed. A shrink-fit insert having a size slightly larger than that corresponding to the layer of base material removed from the shroud is placed into the area of removed material such that the counterbore is restored to pre-damaged dimensions upon installation of the shrink-fit insert.

System for developing composite repair patches on aircraft or other composite structures

A system for generating a repair patch for a damaged area of a composite structure may include a scanning module, a repair patch model generator and a cutting tool. The scanning module may be deployed at the location of the damaged composite structure. The scanning module may be configured to scan the damaged area to generate scanned data indicative of a shape, size and/or contours of the damaged area. The repair patch model generator may include processing circuitry configured to obtain the scanned data, obtain parent ply information of the damaged composite structure, and generating a patch model of a repair patch including size and shape definition for each of a plurality of plies based on the scanned data and the parent ply information. The cutting tool may be configured to receive cutting files based on the patch model to generate a plurality of cut plies that combine to form the repair patch.

A process of preparing a turbine rotor wheel, a repair tool for machining a turbine rotor wheel, and a turbine rotor wheel are disclosed. The process includes providing the turbine rotor wheel, the turbine rotor wheel having a dovetail slot, a cooling slot, and a dovetail acute corner formed by the dovetail slot and the cooling slot and removing a stress region from the dovetail acute corner. The repair tool permits removal of strained material while also reducing the operating stress of the feature. The turbine rotor wheel includes a machined portion resulting in lower stress for the turbine rotor wheel.

Method for Performing Up-Tower Maintenance on a Gearbox Bearing of a Wind Turbine

The invention relates to a method for performing up-tower maintenance on a gearbox bearing of a wind turbine. In particular, a method for performing up-tower maintenance on a gearbox of a wind turbine is disclosed. The gearbox has at least one bearing with an outer race and an inner race that rotates with respect to the outer race. The method includes forming a through-hole in a front cover of the gearbox, the front cover being stationary with respect to an axis of rotation of the bearing. The method also includes forming a recess in the outer race of the bearing. Further, the method includes inserting a connecting member through the through-hole and the recess so as to prevent movement of the outer race of the bearing with respect to a torque arm of the gearbox.
