HAIR STYLING DEVICES AND METHODS OF USE
Aspects of the present disclosure include a hair styling device. The device includes a grip portion contoured for being gripped by a user. The grip portion includes a power cable and a power switch at a first end for supplying and controlling electrical current to the hair styling device. The device also includes a heating portion configured to generate heat based on the electrical current. The heating portion extends from the grip portion at a second end, opposite the first end, and has a cross-sectional profile with side portions between substantially circular ends along a length of the heating portion. The heating portion is configured to apply the heat to hair wrapped around the heating portion to impart a wave in the hair according to the cross-sectional profile.

A hair styling device is described herein that comprises an exposed heating surface, a heating element to heat the exposed heating surface, a temperature sensor to measure a temperature of at least one of the heating element or the exposed heating surface, a heating element interface coupled to the heating element, and a network communication circuit. The hair styling device further comprises a device controller that includes a control circuit to provide a control signal to the heating element interface to modify operation of the heating element according to an instruction received by the network communication circuit over a network from an application. In an embodiment, the device controller further includes a command status monitor to generate a success or fail message, indicative of a success or failure of the instruction in the hair styling device, for transmission by the network communication circuit over the network to the application.

A hair styling aid for curling hair is described, including a housing, guide means comprising a slot in a wall of the housing for receiving a length of hair to be styled, a rotatable element rotatable clockwise or anticlockwise relative to the housing and the guide means, to form curls, and a heated elongate member around which the length of hair is wound by the rotatable element, in use. The housing surrounds a part of the elongate member to form a chamber between the housing wall(s) and the elongate member, the housing extending from and being integral with a handle. The rotatable element is rotatable relative to or with the elongate member, having a predefined starting position to which it is automatically returned after use. The housing has a longitudinal axis and the slot is parallel with the longitudinal axis of the housing.

The device comprises a retainer arm opposed to the base, and pivotally connected to the base so that the retainer arm can pivot from an open position to receive hair and a closed position for retaining hair in the plurality of projections. The forward section of the retainer arm does not have projections and has sufficient open space that at least 50% of the hair being styled is visible to a user.
