BUNION CORRECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD
A minimally invasive method of correcting a bunion includes performing an osteotomy to divide the metatarsal into first and second portions, creating a pocket in the first portion implanting a nail in the pocket, securing a suture to the joint capsule, tensioning the suture to align the great toe with the metatarsal, attaching the suture to the nail, and fastening the nail to the second portion. The nail includes an anchor portion for anchoring in the first portion, a head for attachment to a second portion, a passage for attachment of the suture, a first aperture for a fastener to attach the head with the first portion, and a second aperture for a fastener to attach the head with the second portion.
Interfragmentary guide and plate system
A plating system includes a bone plate including an aperture. A locking member is receivable in the aperture to attach the bone plate to a joint. The plating system includes a guide including a body having a first end portion, a second end portion, an attachment portion attached to the bone plate, and a rotating portion including a sleeve to receive a drill or a guide wire. The first end portion of the body is rotationally connected to the attachment portion to pivot the body about a first axis to move the sleeve, and the rotating portion is rotationally connected to the second end portion of the body of the guide to pivot the rotating portion about a second axis to move the sleeve. The rotating portion translates along the second axis to move the sleeve, and the sleeve defines one of a plurality of trajectories.
BONE FIXATION SYSTEMS AND NAIL HAVING COMPRESSIVE THREADING
A nail for compressing two bone parts to treat bone fractures or osteotomies is provided. The nail has an elongate smooth portion and an elongate threaded portion that is constructed for generating axial compression along a length of the elongate threaded portion between two bone parts. The nail may also have one or more apertures for installing one or more crossing screws through the nail. An installation instrument particularly constructed to install the provided nail is provided. A first and second portion of the provided nail installation instrument may rotate relative to one another when a locking mechanism is disengaged, but are locked in position relative to one another when the locking mechanism is engaged, which enables installation of the provided nail.
Variable stiffness hammertoe K-wire and methods for use
The present disclosure provides an apparatus comprising a wire having a first end and a second end opposite the first end. A first portion of the wire including the first end comprises a malleable region that is configured to remain deformed after bending, and a second portion of the wire including the second end comprises a superelastic region that is configured to return to a straight configuration after bending.
Methods for Generating and Applying Compression Within a Body
This disclosure describes exemplary screw and intramedullary devices that are better able to bring bone fragments into close proximity with each other, generate a compressive load, and maintain that compressive load for a prolonged period of time while healing occurs. The devices are made of a shape memory material.
CAPITAL FRAGMENT GUIDE AND RELATED METHODS
A capital fragment guide is configured to be temporarily secured to a capital fragment of a metatarsal that has been surgically separated from a proximal portion of the metatarsal. The capital fragment guide can be manipulated to correspondingly manipulate the capital fragment, thereby correcting a bunion. An implant can permanently secure the proximal portion to the capital fragment.
BONE IMPLANT AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE BONE IMPLANT
The combination of: a) an implant having a body with a leading end and a trailing end and external threads extending around a lengthwise axis, the body having an axial through passage and configured to be directed into a bone passage whereby upon turning the body in a first direction around the lengthwise axis, the external threads engage a surface bounding the bone passage and cause the implant to be advanced in an assembly direction into an operative position; and b) a removal tool with a first component that is configured to be engaged with the body with the implant in the operative position in such a manner that the body will follow movement of the first component as the first component is: a) turned in a direction opposite to the first direction; and b) drawn in a direction oppositely to the assembly direction to thereby allow the implant to be separated from the bone.
Device for osteosyntheses or arthrodesis of two-bone parts, in particular of the hand and/or foot
In one embodiment, the present invention is a method of arthrodesis or osteosyntheses of a first bone part and a second bone part, including the steps of positioning a first fixation zone of an implant in the first bone part and a second fixation zone of the implant in the second bone part, both the first and second zones made of shape-memory material and, prior to positioning the bone parts, are in an inner position; and while the first fixation zone is within the first bone part and the second fixation zone is within the second bone part, fixating the respective first and second fixation zones within the respective bone parts through shape-memory action at body temperature.
INTERFRAGMENTARY GUIDE AND PLATE SYSTEM
An interfragmentary guide and plate system is described.
