Peripheral nerve electrode for neural recording and stimulation
A bioelectric interface is provided. The bioelectric interface comprises a case having a channel configured to hold a nerve. An electrode array is slidably coupled to the case, wherein the electrode array comprises a number of electrode shanks. The case restricts movement of the electrode array to one degree of freedom toward or away from the nerve held in the channel for insertion of the electrode shanks into the nerve.
Selective Stimulation of Peripheral Nerves
Methods and systems for providing peripheral nerve stimulation are disclosed. Stimulation is delivered to a trunk of the nerve using electrodes configured at different circumferential locations about the nerve. Action potentials evoked by the stimulation within branches of the nerve are measured to map neural element within the trunk to the branches. The mapping can inform the selection of stimulation parameters that provide a therapeutic benefit and/or avoid unwanted side effects.
NEUROMODULATION SYSTEM
A neuromodulation system includes a conductive element, a magnetic field generator, a power module and a computer processor. The conductive element located internal a patient's body. At least a portion of the conductive element is positioned adjacent to a target tissue. The magnetic field generator is positioned external to the patient's body. The magnetic field generator generates a time varying magnetic field for inducing stimulation of the target tissue in combination with the conductive element to produce stimulation that is larger than that which would occur in the absence of the conductive element. The power module supplies power to the magnetic field generator. The computer processor controls the time varying magnetic field provided by the magnetic field generator according to at least one set of stimulation parameters.
CONTROL OF VAGAL STIMULATION
Methods and apparatuses for stimulation of the vagus nerve to treat inflammation including adjusting the stimulation based on one or more metric sensitive to patient response. The one or more metrics may include heart rate variability, level of T regulatory cells, particularly memory T regulatory cells, temperature, etc. Stimulation may be provided through an implantable microstimulator.
ELECTRODE APPARATUS FOR NERVE DENERVATION OR MODULATION IN BODY
An electrode apparatus for nerve denervation or modulation in body includes a main body including a shaft; an electrode unit formed to be drawn out from one end of the shaft and configured to denervate or modulate at least part of nerves on a tube in the body; and an electrode guide coupled to the electrode unit and deformed into a wound state to bring the electrode unit into contact with the tube in the body. The electrode guide includes a plurality of joint units disposed to enclose the circumference of the tube with the electrode unit interposed therebetween in the wound state.
Selective nerve fiber block method and system
A system for selectively blocking nerve fiber activity in a target nerve is provided. The system includes one or more electrodes. The system further includes an electronic control system electrically attached to each electrode to deliver electrical stimulation to a target nerve to block nerve signal transmission of C-fibers in the target nerve such that the nerve signal transmission of A-fibers in the target nerve providing motor function and/or low-threshold sensory function is not blocked. A method of delivering electrical stimulation to selectively block nerve fiber activity in a target nerve and a kit for performing a procedure to selectively block nerve fiber activity are disclosed.
Neuromodulation of ganglia
Modulation of neural activity of a ganglion, by applying a signal to a sympathetic nerve adjacent to the ganglion, results in preferential reduction of sympathetic signals to an effector, thereby providing ways of treating and preventing conditions associated with exacerbated sympatho-excitation.
Treatment of acute medical conditions
Electrical stimulation of neural activity in the neural innervation of the spleen that is associated with neurovascular bundles provides a useful way to treat acute medical conditions, such as trauma, hemorrhaging and shock.
Flexible circuit peripheral nerve stimulator with low profile hybrid assembly
A peripheral nerve stimulator configured as a flexible circuit to stimulate or block the operation of a nerve or nerve bundle, including electrode array, cable and bond pad portions connected to an electronics package. The electrode array is configured for peripheral nerve modulation and may be curved cylindrically to encompass a nerve. A cylindrical curve can be imparted through thermoforming or by applying a stretchable polymer. The stretchable polymer places the electrode array portion into a cylinder when the electrode array portion is in a relaxed position. The electronics package includes low profile, stacked thin chip electronic components that are tunable in-situ, requiring less vertical and lateral space than stacked passives. The thin chip components may be high density trench capacitors, metal-on-semiconductor capacitors positioned on an integrated circuit chip. The thin chip components may include metal-insulator-metal capacitors having a tunable capacitance value and/or may be a binary capacitor array.
Bipolar and tripolar confirguration for unidirectional stimulation of A-type nerve fibers
There is provided a neural interface device for unidirectional stimulation of a nerve including at least one A-type nerve fiber or at least one at least partially myelinated nerve fiber. The device includes an electrode arrangement for placing on or around the nerve. The electrode arrangement includes a first electrode configured to be positively charged and a second electrode configured to be negatively charged, where the surface area of the second electrode is larger than the surface area of first electrode.
