CONTROL AND CONFIGURATION OF SOFTWARE-DEFINED MACHINES
Disclosed techniques include control and configuration of software-defined machines. A hardware design for a mechanical system is obtained. The mechanical system includes a plurality of components that includes a liquid piston heat engine. Couplings between the plurality of components are described. A plurality of layers for the mechanical system is defined. The mechanical system that includes the liquid piston heat engine is implemented. The implementation is across the plurality of layers. The implementation is based on the couplings between the plurality of components. The couplings are described using connectivity maps. The implementation is based on construction rules. An application programming interface is used to communicate information on the plurality of layers for the mechanical system. The plurality of layers provides progressive levels of abstraction for the mechanical system.

HEATED MEMBRANE/MODULE FOR THERMALLY-DRIVEN MEMBRANE DISTILLATION SYSTEMS
A membrane for membrane distillation processing includes a heating element configured to generate heat when an electrical current is applied to the heating element; a polymeric matrix having pores that allow a vapor to pass through, but not a liquid; and electrical contacts electrically connected to the heating element. The entire heating element is covered by an insulating material to prevent the heating element to directly interact with the liquid processed by the membrane.
Used Oil Recycling Filtration Assembly
A filtration system suitable for recovering base stock from used lubricating oil and other applications pass feedstock over nano-filtration membranes assembled as a stack of membranes all experiencing parallel flow. On exiting a first stack of membranes the feedstock passes through an opening in a pressure-sustaining separator plate to flow in the reverse direction past a second stack of membranes and subsequently establish a serpentine flow of feedstock through multiple stacks of membranes. The stacks of membranes all share a common pressure containment vessel. Pressure boosters installed in the flow-through openings of separator plates separating consecutive stacks can serve to restore lost pressure of the feedstock and maintain effective permeation of permeate through the membranes. A pressure control valve at the outlet to the permeate-receiving cavities of a stack can be used to adjust the trans-membrane pressure.
Connection device for a suction apparatus of a vacuum diaphragm filter
A connection mechanism for a suction device for vacuum membrane filtration applications, includes a support for receiving a membrane filter or a filtration base, a cavity formed below the membrane filter or the filtration base, a suction duct which opens centrally into the cavity, and a ventilation duct which opens laterally into the cavity. The connection mechanism further includes a closing element which can be moved into several switching positions and which can block or unblock both the suction duct and the ventilation duct depending on the switching positions.
METHOD FOR CONTROLLING WATER PURIFICATION, AND A WATER PURIFICATION APPARATUS
A method for controlling water purification, and a water purification apparatus (1). The apparatus (1) comprises a reverse osmosis membrane (3a) configured to receive feed water from a feed pump (5), and to produce permeate water and reject water. The method comprises measuring (S1) a property indicative of an inlet water quality C.sub.inlet of inlet water to the feed pump (5), and determining (S2) a target recovery for the water purification based on the property indicative of the inlet water quality. The method further comprises controlling (S3) a feed pump speed to a predetermined speed, or to a speed determined based on a relation between the feed pump speed, the inlet water quality C.sub.inlet and a target permeate water quality C.sub.per, based on the inlet water quality. The method comprises measuring (S4) a property indicative of a product water flow rate Q.sub.prod, wherein the product water is permeate water that is delivered for consumption, recirculating (S5) a first portion of the reject water, and controlling (S6) a drain flow rate Q.sub.drain to drain, from a second portion of the reject water, to accomplish the target recovery based on the product water flow rate Q.sub.prod.

A diafiltration system comprises a fluid treatment assembly comprising two or more fluid treatment modules, the fluid treatment assembly comprising a feed inlet, a permeate outlet, and a retentate outlet; each module comprising a cross flow treatment assembly including an ultrafiltration membrane and having a feed side and a permeate side, and a diafiltration fluid distribution plate comprising a diafiltration fluid feed inlet and a common feed permeate/diafiltration fluid permeate outlet port; two or more diafiltration fluid conduits, each conduit in fluid communication with a respective single diafiltration fluid feed inlet; and, a diafiltration fluid pump comprising at least a first multiple channel pump head having at least two channels including separate channels for separate conduits in fluid communication with respective single diafiltration fluid feed inlets, wherein the pump provides simultaneously controlled diafiltration fluid flow rates through each of the conduits to the respective diafiltration fluid feed inlets.
FORWARD OSMOTIC AND WATER HAMMER METHOD OF MEMBRANE CLEANING
Apparatus and method for semi-permeable membrane cleaning in particular, applying series of pulsed water stroke, made simultaneously with osmosis backward flow causing superposed membrane directional shaking and fouling detachment. Pulsed water stroke provided by water stroke generator as several momentum sharp changes in gauge pressure and induce velocity pulse of residual brine flow. The pulsed water strokes ideally induce resonance in the membrane. Osmosis backward wash may be provided either by injection for predetermined injection time, additional solution selected in such way that net driving pressure becomes opposite to normal osmotic operation thereby providing a backward flow of permeate towards to the side opposite to normal operation mode, so as to lift said foulant, or by throttling permeate exiting from the permeate enclosure, until the net driving pressure value become equal to zero, during application of precise synchronized and opposing brine and permeate pressure strokes thereby providing a plurality of quick RO-FO-RO process changes. These procedures allow a membrane to be kept continuously clean and operate at higher recovery.
PORTABLE LIQUID-FILTRATION DEVICE
A portable liquid-filtration device includes an inlet port, a filtering portion including a filtering medium and fluidly coupled to the inlet port, a filtered-liquid output port fluidly coupled to the filtering portion, a flush port fluidly coupled to the filtering portion, and a manually activated pump assembly fluidly coupled to the inlet port, filtering portion, output port and flush port. The pump assembly is configured, when activated, to create a negative fluid pressure at the inlet port and a positive fluid pressure at the output port and the flush port. As a consequence of activation of the pump assembly, the filtering portion receives unfiltered liquid from the inlet port, the output port receives from the filtering portion only liquid traversing the filtering medium in a first direction, and the flush port receives from the filtering portion liquid traversing the filtering medium in a second direction different from the first direction.
