A manual mixer serves to facilitate mixing and agitating materials for use during surgery. For example, the manual mixer includes a body portion defining an interior area, a mixing assembly provided in the interior area of the body portion, a crank assembly for actuating the mixing assembly, and a valve assembly. The mixing assembly serves to mix and agitate the materials provided in the interior through rotation of a plunger portion and a spring attached thereto, and through upwards and downwards movement of the plunger portion in the interior area. Rotation of the crank assembly serves to rotate the plunger portion and the spring attached thereto, and effectuate upwards and downwards movement of the plunger portion. The valve assembly can be opened to facilitate dispensing of the materials from the interior area.

A storage and mixing system for pasty two-component polymethyl methacrylate bone cements comprises a tubular cartridge having a cylindrical inner chamber, a dispensing plunger that is axially displaceable in the inner chamber of the cartridge, a partition disposed axially in the tubular cartridge, and a cartridge head which closes one end of the tubular cartridge. The cartridge head has a slot-shaped opening, wherein the partition protrudes from the inner chamber of the cartridge through the slot-shaped opening of the cartridge head, wherein the partition divides the cylindrical inner chamber of the cartridge bounded by the dispensing plunger and the cartridge head into two cavities that are spatially separated from one another. A first pasty cement component is present in the first cavity and a second pasty cement component is present in the separate second cavity, wherein the partition is removable through the slot-shaped opening of the cartridge head so that the two separate cavities are connected to one another after the partition is removed.

Mixing Device and Methods For Making Bone Cement

A mixing device and methods for making bone cement. A piston (156) of the mixing device is located in a first region (158) of a chamber (112) such that a mixing paddle (154) rotates to mix bone cement components at a first pressure to make a bone cement mixture. The piston (156) is moved passed an inlet opening (136) to be located within a second region (160) of the chamber (112) to compress the bone cement mixture to a second pressure greater than the first pressure to compress the bone cement mixture and make the bone cement. The bone cement may be transferred to a delivery device. The mixing device may include features that automatically initiate the compression and transferring phases after completion of the mixing phase, and further include features that automatically terminate the operational cycle. A three-step intuitive workflow utilizing the mixing device to improve efficiency in the surgical suite is also disclosed.

The invention provides a bone cement mixing assembly including a mixer, a syringe barrel and a movable plug cover. The mixer includes a stirring rod and a stirring barrel. The stirring rod has holding end, a rod body and a stirring end. The stirring barrel has a barrel cover, a first barrel open, a first barrel body, a first barrel bottom, and a stirring space located in the first barrel body. The syringe barrel has a second barrel open, a second barrel body, a second barrel bottom, and an injection space located in the second barrel body. In this way, the complete-stirred bone cement in the stirring barrel can be directly collected and pushed into the syringe barrel through the movement of the movable plug cover to achieve the effect of completing the preparation of the bone cement quickly and efficiently.

Valve for prefilled bone cement mixing system

According to one example, a valve for an apparatus configured to mix bone cement is disclosed. The valve can include a base defining a first portion of a passage. The passage can be configured to allow a component of the bone cement through the valve. The valve can include a projection extending from the base to a base opposing end and forming a second portion of the passage that communicates with the first portion. The projection can have a frustoconically shaped surface that comprises one of an outer surface or an inner surface that forms a part of the second portion of the passage.

Bone Cement Mixing System and Apparatus

An apparatus for mixing bone cement for use in orthopedic surgeries includes a mixing region and an agitator for mix the cement ingredients. A temperature sensing means of apparatus determines when that the cement mix can no longer be used. The apparatus can be operated or acted on by a power tool for the mixing of the bone cement. The power tool and/or mixing apparatus may include a mechanical torque limiter that inhibits the agitator as a result of mixing torque exceeding a threshold value. A timer of the apparatus may be started by a sensor of the apparatus or by the user in response to a mechanical torque value. When the timer is complete, a cue by the apparatus signals to the user that the mixed cement is ready and able to be applied.
