FERROUS SULFIDE-CONTAINING PASSIVATOR FOR REMOVING HEAVY METAL FROM SOIL AND PREPARATION METHOD AND USE THEREOF
A method for preparing the ferrous sulfide-containing passivator includes: dissolving a sulfide in an alkaline solution to form a mixed solution with a pH of 12-13; adding sodium silicate to the mixed solution and stirring for 0.5-1 hour at 20-40° C.; adding an aqueous solution of ferrous salt to the mixed solution containing sodium silicate, and allowing to react at 40-60° C. for 2-3 hours; where, with decrease of the pH of the mixed solution, sodium silicate is converted into silica nanoparticles, and the ferrous salt reacts with the sulfide to form ferrous sulfide; and further adding an aqueous solution of an organic modifier, and allowing to react at 40-60° C. for 1-2 hours to form a passivator slurry including surface-modified ferrous sulfide doped with silicon dioxide; filtering the passivator slurry to form a passivator.

Heat Pump-Based Water Harvesting Systems
Water harvesting systems and methods of making and using such water harvesting systems, for capturing water from surrounding air using configurations that reduce overall energy costs and improves water harvesting cycle efficiency in the water harvesting system. In particular embodiments, the water harvesting system can be configured for dehumidification-humidification of air, and a method in the water harvesting system for dehumidification-humidification to control moisture level in the air conditioned by the water harvesting system. The systems and methods use sorbent materials, such as metal-organic frameworks, to adsorb water from the air. The systems and methods desorb this water in the form of water vapor, and the water vapor can be condensed into liquid water and collected to dehumidify air conditioned by the water harvesting system. The collected liquid water can be sprayed to humidify air conditioned by the water harvesting system.
Yttrium-containing sol-gel coating, its use, and manufacture
Yttria containing hybrid organic-inorganic sol-gels may be used in coatings for capillary microextraction, optionally hyphenated to online HPLC analysis. The sol-gel reaction mixture can use an yttrium trialkoxyalkoxide, such as yttrium trimethoxyethoxide, and a [bis(hydroxyalkyl)-amino-alkyl]-terminated polydialkyl/arylsiloxane, such as [bis(hydroxyethyl)-amine] (BHEA)-terminated polydimethylsiloxane, that can undergo hydrolysis and polycondensation, to form coating materials. Capillaries coated with such sol-gels can have improved extraction efficiency compared, e.g., to pure yttria-based coatings. The CME-HPLC can analyze water samples containing analytes of varied polarity, with excellent extraction of amides, phenols, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, and polyaromatic hydrocarbons and detection limits ranging from 0.18 to 7.35 ng/mL (S/N=3). Such capillaries can exhibit solvent stability at pH 0 to 14, RSD % between 0.6 to 6.8% (n=3), at a preparative reproducibility RSD between 4.1 and 9.9%.
