A tool shank has a head receiving pocket at a forward end, and a plurality of chip flutes extending rearwardly therefrom along a longitudinal axis. The head receiving pocket has a support surface transverse to the longitudinal axis. A central recess is formed in the support surface and extends rearwardly therefrom. The central recess has a plurality of resiliently displaceable abutment portions circumferentially alternating with and spaced apart by a plurality of intermediate portions. Each abutment portion has a radially inward facing abutment surface, and each intermediate portion has an intermediate surface intersecting two circumferentially adjacent abutment surfaces. A rotary cutting tool includes the shank and a cutting head releasably mounted thereto. The cutting head has a mounting portion provided with a base surface and an engagement member protruding therefrom. In an assembled position, the engagement member is resiliently retained in the central recess against the plurality of abutment surfaces.

A hole saw having a blade portion separable into two parts which when separated form a base portion and a tip portion. The base and the tip have correspondingly shaped apertures and lugs that co-operate together to hold the blade tip in place. A locking means further assists in ensuring that the blade tip remains locked to the base and includes a sliding latch that engages an aperture in the blade and the base and is itself locked in place to thereby lock the blade to the base. An intermediate portion also allows for the hole saw to drill through different depths.

ACCESSORY TOOL

An accessory tool includes an effector end including a body having first end and a second end opposite the first end, and a base shoulder adjacent the second end. The accessory tool further includes a shank coupled to the effector end. The shank includes a tool engagement portion configured to be received within a tool and having a hexagonal cross section defining a maximum outer width, a first reduced diameter portion disposed adjacent the effector end and defining a minimum outer dimension that is less than the maximum outer width, a fillet extending contiguous from the first reduced diameter portion and flaring outward to the base shoulder, and a second reduced diameter portion disposed adjacent the tool engagement portion and configured to receive a ball detent. The fillet defines a first radius of curvature, and the second reduced diameter portion defines a second radius of curvature.

Replaceable cutting head having threaded mounting portion with two spaced apart conical abutment surfaces provided with the same cone angle, tool holder and rotary cutting tool

A replaceable cutting head includes a forward cutting portion and a rearward mounting portion. The mounting portion includes a male coupling member that protrudes rearwardly from a head base surface. The male coupling member includes forward and rearward bearing portions and an external thread located therebetween. The forward and rearward bearing portions include respective conically shaped forward and rearward head abutment surface. The forward and rearward head abutment surfaces have the same cone angle. When a cutting tool, including said cutting head and a tool holder having a female coupling member, is in a locked position, the external thread is threadingly engaged in the female coupling member and the forward and rearward head abutment surfaces conically abut corresponding conical shaped surfaces in the female coupling member.

A hole-saw comprises a cylindrical body, a plate, a mandrel, and a clamping member. A cutting edge is formed at an open end of the body and is disposed about the body's rotational axis. The plate is disposed at an opposite end of the body, is rotationally coupled to the body, and is oriented perpendicular to the body's rotational axis. In one embodiment the plate has lateral slots formed through the plate and lateral grooves formed in the plate's distal surface in an orientation transverse to the slots. The mandrel's proximal section forms an arbor shaft, and its distal section includes lateral bosses sized to insert through the plate's slots and rest in the plate's grooves. The clamping member has a body that is movable along the mandrel's longitudinal axis to engage the plate's proximal surface and clamp the plate between the clamping member and the bosses resting in the plate's grooves. Other embodiments include a cylindrical body with a cutting edge at both ends. Either cutting edge can have an inner or an outer tooth to easily remove the plug. The pilot drill bit can have a burr to prevent jamming.
