An ice blasting machine comprising a crusher for crushing water ice; and a crusher-activation mechanism to activate or deactivate the crusher, wherein the crusher is activated to operate in water ice mode and wherein the crusher is deactivated to operate in dry ice mode. An ice-blasting method including activating a crusher to crush water ice when operating in water ice mode and deactivating the crusher when operating in dry ice mode.
POLISHING MACHINE AND METHOD FOR POLISHING OPTICAL WAVEGUIDES
The invention relates to a polishing machine (10) and to a method for polishing optical waveguides, the polishing machine comprising a polishing disk (13) having a plug socket (14) for holding a plug with an optical waveguide, a polishing platform (15) for receiving an abrasive, a positioning device (17) for relative positioning of the polishing disk and of the polishing platform between a polishing position and a set-up position (16), and a drive device for executing a relative polishing movement between the polishing platform and the polishing disk in the polishing position, wherein the polishing machine has a cleaning device for applying dry ice to the polishing platform and/or to the polishing disk.
Method for manufacturing an ice projectile
The invention relates to a method for producing an ice projectile. The method comprises the steps of: —providing a quantity of water; providing a quantity of alcohol corresponding to at least 5 wt.-% of the quantity of water; mixing the quantity of water with the quantity of alcohol; transferring the mixture to means for cooling and solidifying the mixture to form a piece of ice; cooling the mixture in the cooling and solidifying means to a mixture-solidification temperature in order to produce at least one piece of ice; and launching the or each piece of ice at a target using launching means.
Degradable abrasive for erosive jet cutting
An erosive jet can propel degradable, abrasive grit conveyed in a carrier fluid to erode a downhole structure, such as a tubular (e.g., cutting through a tubular) or formation (e.g., perforation actions). The abrasive grit can be selected to degrade or dissolve in the wellbore fluid (e.g., in carrier fluid pumped into the wellbore or in fluid originating from the wellbore). The abrasive grit can provide increased cutting or erosion efficiency in the erosive jet during the cutting operation, then may degrade (e.g., dissolve) in the wellbore fluid to avoid certain complications, such as clogging or residue build-up in the wellbore formation or on downhole equipment. A degradation accelerator can be introduced (e.g., in carrier fluid) to accelerate degradation of the abrasive grit in the wellbore fluid. Degradation accelerators can be temperature-activated, pH-activated, or otherwise time-delayed so the abrasive grit remains sufficiently intact to perform the desired erosion operation.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVAL OF SURFACE CARBON FROM POLYSILICON
A method of removing surface carbon contamination from polycrystalline silicon comprises providing a polycrystalline silicon feed stream having surface carbon contamination, subjecting the polycrystalline silicon to a high velocity fluid selected from gas, gas/liquid mixtures, gas/solid mixtures and gas/solid/liquid mixtures to form a product stream comprising polycrystalline silicon having surface carbon in an amount of less than 200 parts per billion by weight based on weight of the polycrystalline silicon product and/or a reduction in surface carbon contamination of at least 20%. A system for conducting the method comprises an enclosure, a conveyer for moving a polycrystalline silicon feed stream through the enclosure, at least one stream of a high velocity fluid passing through outlets in the enclosure and directed at the feed stream, an ionizing source in the enclosure or integrated with the at least one stream of high velocity fluid, and an exhaust system for the enclosure.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVING A CONFORMAL COATING FROM A CIRCUIT BOARD
A method of removing a conformal coating from a circuit board coated with said conformal coating, the method comprising: subjecting the circuit board to a jet comprising dry-ice ejected from a nozzle, to remove said conformal coating from said circuit board.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CLEANING A VULCANIZATION MOLD
Method for cleaning a vulcanization mould for tyres in a curing press, using a device (1) comprising a collaborative mobile robot (10), incorporating a computer program, said robot comprising an autonomous mobile platform (2) mounted on drive wheels and comprising batteries supplying electricity, a dry ice dispenser (6), sensors for identifying the location of the mould to be cleaned and motors ensuring its displacement between a storage location of the device and the mould to be cleaned and the displacement of an articulated mobile arm (3) of said robot, said robot bearing a nozzle (4) for spraying dry ice from said dispenser, wherein the device comprises means for communication with a control unit.
According to the invention, the control unit sends a mission instruction to said device, which navigates between a storage location and the location of the mould and automatically cleans the vulcanization mould.
SUSPENSION CLEANING
A method of cleaning a contaminated surface, such as cleaning the elongate interior lumen of an endoscope contaminated with flesh, bone, blood, mucous, faeces or biofilm, said method comprising the steps of: providing a suspension of solid particles in a liquid to said contaminated surface, and flowing said suspension along said surface thereby to remove contaminant from the surface. The suspension is preferably an ice slurry, where the solid material is ice crystals. The slurry preferably has a solid fraction between 50-85% by volume. A freezing point depressant may be present.
Additive manufacturing method
An additive manufacturing method of manufacturing a product by laminating metal includes: laminating the metal so as to form a half-finished product of the product and a support; and spraying dry ice pellets having a particle shape to the support, after the laminating.
PARTICLE BLAST APPARATUS
A particle blast apparatus or system entrains blast media particles from a particle source into a transport fluid which already has blast media particles entrained therein. The system may have, prior thereto, entrained blast media particles into the transport fluid which at that time did not already have blast media particles entrained therein. The particle types may be dissimilar, such as dry ice particles and abrasive media particles.
