The present invention relates to a cleaning pad, cleaning device, and a method for cleaning. The cleaning pad has a plurality of ridges and grooves configured to mesh with the channels and ribs of an escalator or moving walkway step. The cleaning device includes a head portion configured to attach to a handle, and a cleaning pad removably attached to the head portion.

The disclosed invention utilizes deformable gaskets configured to form a seal which slides through the grooves and across the tops of escalator and travelator treads and using evacuation cleaning components as either a complete escalator and travelator tread cleaning machine or an accessory device configured to operate with an existing vacuum carpet evacuation apparatus. The disclosed gaskets in combination with evacuation and spray nozzle manifolds connected by escalator and travelator groove passages form a basic embodiment of the disclosed tread engagement assembly. In certain embodiments, the disclosed apparatus utilizes certain components of carpet evacuation equipment in combination with the disclosed v for cleaning escalator and travelator treads, including both the risers and treads of the escalator and travelator.

The disclosed preferred embodiment of the handrail cleaning device comprises a flexible bar which uses spring resilience force to press one or more reusable or disposable cleaning pads against the moving handrail of an escalator. The apparatus provides a lightweight, low cost apparatus that is simple to set-up and use and requires no external power. Additionally, the device is capable of cleaning and treating the handrails of common escalators during operation of the escalator. The device utilizes the motion of the escalator to perform the cleaning action. The simplicity of the device allows for multiple devices to be used simultaneously by a single operator.

The system includes a frame comprising a set of guide arms, a set of first service systems movably connected to the frame, and a set of second service systems removably mounted to the frame. The first service system includes a set of interchangeable servicing units. The set of second service systems is optionally interchangeable. The method including the steps of engaging the set of second service systems with each movable stair of the set of movable stairs and simultaneously engaging the set of first service systems with a riser portion of each movable stair of the set of movable stairs and a step portion of each movable stair of the set of movable stairs.

A system and method for simultaneously cleaning riser and step portions of movable stairs in an escalator is disclosed. The system includes a frame comprising a set of guide arms, a set of first service systems movably connected to the frame, and a set of second service systems removably mounted to the frame. An escalator step cleaner for cleaning escalator steps having a plurality of parallel tread ridges separated by tread grooves has a cleaning pad assembly configured to extend generally perpendicular to the direction of motion of the escalator steps and clean the escalator steps while the escalator is in motion. The cleaning pad assembly has a rigid upper plate and a flexible disposable bottom pad having a cleaning contact surface. The contact surface carries a plurality of spaced parallel pad ridges separated by pad grooves that matingly engage between the tread ridges of the escalator steps and cause dislodgement of the accumulated debris. The cleaning pad assembly can be secured on a hand-held cleaning tool or on a motorized cleaning tool with rotating brushes and a vacuum.
