Filter capsule for secondary filtration of coffee and use thereof

A filter capsule for secondary filtration of extracted coffee is provided, where the filter capsule comprises a housing and at least one filter element or consists thereof. The housing comprises a bottom, at least one side wall and at least one cover or consists thereof, the at least one filter element being disposed in an interior space of the housing. Coffee extracted on a brewing strainer can be subjected to a secondary filtration so that suspended particles and emulsified oils of a specific size are separated from the coffee by the filter element of the filter capsule and a new type of coffee is produced. The use of the filter capsule for secondary filtration of coffee is therefore proposed.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SEPARATING COMPETING ANIONS FROM PER- AND POLYFLUOROALKYL SUBSTANCES (PFAS) IN A FLOW OF WATER
20220315453 · 2022-10-06 ·

A system for separating competing anions from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in a flow of water contaminated with PFAS and elevated levels of competing anions that includes a separation subsystem which receives the flow of water contaminated with PFAS and elevated levels of competing anions and separates competing anions from the PFAS and concentrates the PFAS to produce a treated flow of water having separated competing anions therein and a flow of water having a majority of PFAS therein. At least one anion exchange vessel having an anion exchange resin therein receives the flow of water having a majority of PFAS therein and removes PFAS from the water to produce a flow of treated water having a majority of the PFAS removed. The separation of competing anions by the separation subsystem increases the treatment capacity of the anion exchange resin to remove PFAS from the contaminated water.

SOLUTION OF POLYSULFONE POLYMERS IN GAMMA-VALEROLACTONE FOR THE USE IN MEMBRANES

Systems for Removal of Detergents from Aqueous Solutions
20230143149 · 2023-05-11 ·

Systems are described in which a primary detergent or surfactant in an aqueous solution is removed by the addition of a secondary detergent or surfactant in concentrations that exceed the critical micellar concentration (CMC) of the secondary detergent or surfactant using a size separation device. These systems are particularly applicable to protein-containing solutions. Typical primary detergents/surfactants include polysorbate 20, polysorbate 80, and Triton X-100. Suitable secondary detergents or surfactants can be ionic, nonionic, or zwitterionic. Typical secondary detergents/surfactants include, but are not limited to, galactoside detergents (e.g. octyl-β-galactoside), glucamide detergents (e.g. MEGA 8, MEGA 9, MEGA 10), cholamide detergents (e.g. CHAPS, CHAPSO, BIGCHAPS), and sulfobetaine detergents (such as sulfobetaine 3-10).

The present invention, in some aspects, provides compositions including a solution comprising a plurality of exfoliated silk microfibrils and/or exfoliated silk nanofibrils, wherein the micro- or nano-fibrils are characterized as having a substantially nematic structure, as well as methods for making and using the same.

Genetically engineered strain for producing porcine myoglobin and food-grade fermentation and purification thereof

The disclosure discloses a genetically engineered strain for producing porcine myoglobin and fermentation and purification thereof, and belongs to the technical field of genetic engineering. The disclosure realizes efficient secretion and expression of porcine myoglobin by integrating the gene of porcine myoglobin in P. pastoris. On this basis, optimization of the medium and culture conditions of recombinant P. pastoris can significantly increase the titer of porcine myoglobin, so that the titer can reach 285.42 mg/L under fermenter conditions. In addition, by creatively adding different concentrations of ammonium sulfate to fermentation broth step by step, the purity of myoglobin obtained by final concentration is up to 88.0%, and the purification rate is up to 66.1%. The disclosure realizes efficient expression and high purification of porcine myoglobin from various steps such as synthesis, fermentation and purification of porcine myoglobin, and provides broad prospects for industrial production of porcine myoglobin.

Stabilized surfactant-based membranes and methods of manufacture thereof. Membranes comprising a stabilized surfactant mesostructure on a porous support may be used for various separations, including reverse osmosis and forward osmosis. The membranes are stabilized after evaporation of solvents; in some embodiments no removal of the surfactant is required. The surfactant solution may or may not comprise a hydrophilic compound such as an acid or base. The surface of the porous support is preferably modified prior to formation of the stabilized surfactant mesostructure. The membrane is sufficiently stable to be utilized in commercial separations devices such as spiral wound modules. Also a stabilized surfactant mesostructure coating for a porous material and filters made therefrom. The coating can simultaneously improve both the permeability and the filtration characteristics of the porous material.
