SELECTIVE SURFACE FINISHING FOR CORROSION INHIBITION VIA CHEMICAL VAPOR DEPOSITION
20210071308 · 2021-03-11 ·

A versatile, thermally stable and economically effective corrosion inhibition treatment for copper (Cu) metal and selected metals surface through a single step chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of selected inhibitor compounds at temperatures as low as 100-200 C. is described in this invention. The resulting CVD deposited inhibition coating is thermally stable to 300 C. and protects Cu and selected metals from active corrosion in various technologically important operational environments. The selective coating for copper metal is achieved by controlling the chemistry of bonding between the Copper metal surface and inhibitor material used. The technique can be accomplished by using one or more inhibitors separately or in combination in order to create an all-terrain stable & robust corrosion prevention coating for copper metal.

Surface modification of metals and alloys to alter wetting properties
10907258 · 2021-02-02 · ·

Surfaces of metals and alloys that exhibit hydrophilic, omniphilic or hydrophobic properties, and methods of preparation thereof. The surface is roughened by surface polishing, thermo-catalytic etching, and temperature gradient etching. This procedure produces a hierarchical micro-/nano-scale roughness in the surface which comprises grooves, micro-cavities, and nano-cavities. This greatly enhances the hydrophilic and omniphilic properties of the pure surface without the need for coatings or oxidation. A further step of immersing the roughened surface in a stearic acid solution makes the surface hydrophobic or superhydrophobic.

ABRASION-RESISTANT COATINGS FOR THERMAL INTERFACES

A system having a removable electronic component employs an abrasion-resistant thermally conductive film as a thermal interface between the removable electronic component and a heat sink. The abrasion-resistant film reduces thermal impedance between the removable electronic component and the heat sink when the removable electronic component is repeatedly installed and removed from a chamber in a host device. The abrasion-resistant film includes a polymer formed from a silicone-containing resin and an inorganic particulate filler; the film may also be interlocked with a corrosion protection layer at the heat sink. A method of forming a heat sink is provided that minimizes increases in thermal impedance.

SUPERHYDROPHOBIC SURFACES

Articles and methods related to superhydrophobic surfaces are generally described. In some embodiments, an article may include a substrate and a plurality of nanoscale and/or microscale features may be formed on a surface of the substrate by irradiating the substrate. The plurality of nanoscale and/or microscale features may comprise oxides and/or hydroxides on the surface of the substrate. A fluorinated coating may be associated with at least a portion of the surface of the substrate, including, for example, the nanoscale and/or microscale features may be coated with the fluorinated coating.

MODIFICATION METHOD OF SURFACE OF BASE, COMPOSITION, AND POLYMER

A modification method of a surface of a base includes applying a composition on a surface layer of a base to form a coating film. The surface layer contains a metal atom. The coating is heated. The composition contains a polymer and a solvent. The polymer includes at an end of a main chain or at an end of a side chain thereof, a functional group that is at least one selected from: a group represented by the following formula (1); a group containing a carbon-carbon triple bond; and a group containing an aromatic hydroxy group. In the formula (1), R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and n is an integer of 1 to 10, wherein in a case in which n is no less than 2, a plurality of R.sup.1s are identical or different.
