In some embodiments, a modular assembly includes a first base frame and a second base frame hingedly coupled to one another, a first tooling frame disposed on the first base frame, a second tooling frame disposed on the second base frame, a first shell mold coupled to the first tooling frame, and a second shell mold coupled to the second tooling frame. The first shell mold has a first mold surface and a first perimeter and the second shell mold has a second mold surface and a second perimeter. When in an open configuration, the first base frame is coplanar with the second base frame, and, in a closed configuration, the first perimeter contacts the second perimeter.

Methods of molding wind turbine blades using a modular molding assembly or system and methods of substituting molds are provided. In some embodiments, a modular assembly includes a first base frame and a second base frame hingedly coupled to one another, a first tooling frame disposed on the first base frame, a second tooling frame disposed on the second base frame, a first shell mold coupled to the first tooling frame, and a second shell mold coupled to the second tooling frame. The first shell mold has a first mold surface and a first perimeter and the second shell mold has a second mold surface and a second perimeter. A blowing mold array includes a blowing mold unit forming a cavity, inside of which plastic preforms are expanded to plastic containers. The blow mold unit includes a blowing mold retainer having at least two mold retainer elements for accommodating parts of the blowing mold unit, and a locking mechanism to arrest at least one part of the blowing mold unit against at least one mold retainer element. The locking mechanism includes an engagement element that can be pivoted and/or shifted relative to a default axis, which in an arrested state abuts a segment of a part of the blowing mold unit. The locking mechanism has an actuating element to loosen the arrest between the mold retaining element and the blowing mold unit. Actuation of the actuating element is coupled with actuation of the engagement element.

The present invention provides a parting locking device configured such that a locking member can be uncoupled from a base holder even with a locking bar inserted in the locking member, and the locking bar stably moves. The locking bar includes a thick-walled and thin-walled portions. In a first state in which the thick-walled portion is located between an engagement element and the inner surface of a bar inserting hole, and in a third state in which the locking bar is pulled out of the locking member, the engagement element is moved to first or second engagement element paths, and the locking member is uncoupled from the base holder. In a second state in which the thin-walled portion is located between the engagement element and the inner surface of the bar inserting hole (9), the engagement element is engaged with engagement recesses, thereby keeping the locking member coupled to the base holder.

The method involves forming a flat layup sheet of plies (1) to be folded about a central leading edge region (6) of the layup into an aerofoil shape, applying to the flat layup (1) one or more layups of plies (9, 10) shaped as spars, partially curing the layup (1) with the spars attached, folding the resulting partially cured composite component (30) about the leading edge region (6) in a forming jig (19) so that opposing edges (4, 5) of the sheet meet as a trailing edge (36) of the aerofoil (35), clamping the jig (19) closed and curing the composite component (30) and adhesive in the forming jig (19) to form the finished aerofoil (35).

An example system is configured to photocure a photocurable material to form a polymer film. The system includes a first chuck configured to support a first substantially planar mold, a second chuck configured to support a second substantially planar mold, and an actuable stage coupled to the first chuck and/or the second chuck. The actuable stage is configured to position the first chuck and/or the second chuck so that the first and second molds are separated by a gap. The system also includes a sensor arrangement for obtaining measurement information indicative of a distance between the first and second molds and/or a pressure between the first and second chucks at each of at least three locations. The system also includes a control module configured control the gap between the first and second molds based on the measurement information.
