Provided is an aromatic polycarbonate resin sheet/film which has excellent bending characteristics and surface smoothness. It is found that a sheet having excellent surface smoothness, which cannot be achieved by conventional sheets, can be obtained by adjusting sheet extrusion conditions for a polycarbonate resin sheet/film into which a reinforcing filler is blended. It is also found that a thermally shaped article having excellent appearance can be obtained by using this sheet in pressure molding or in thermal press molding.

An eye-mountable device is provided that includes a plurality of rigid polymer layers separated by liquid crystal layers. Certain eye-mountable devices includes a first rigid polymer layer, a second rigid polymer layer, and a liquid crystal layer between the first and second rigid polymer layers. The liquid crystal layer has a refractive index that is electrically controllable between an ordinary refractive index and an extraordinary refractive index, and the first rigid polymer layer and second rigid polymer layer include materials having a refractive index similar to the ordinary refractive index of the liquid crystal layer. The first rigid polymer layer and second rigid polymer layer may also include a combination of monomer-derived units that provide cast-moldable materials with high oxygen permeability. Methods for fabricating the eye-mountable device and for changing the focal length of the eye-mountable device are also provided.

The present invention discloses an anti-blue light anti-infrared resin lens having a refractivity of 1.50, and a preparation method thereof. The lens comprises 100 parts by weight of CR39 resin monomer, 0.5-5 parts by weight of an initiator, and 1.0216-30.6 parts by weight of an additive, where the additive includes an anti-infrared absorber, a blue light absorber, and a hardness modifier at a weight ratio of 0.0005-0.5:0.001-10:1-10, the initiator is benzoyl peroxide, dicumyl peroxide, or 1,1-di-tert-butylperoxy-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane. The resin lens prepared in the present invention has both blue light absorption effect and near-infrared absorption effect and is capable of being dyed as needed to have the effect of sunglasses, while the quality of the lens is guaranteed. The resin lens is a new type of multifunctional resin lens.

A polymer optical fiber is provided which shows improved hydrolytic stability. This fiber comprises a polymeric optical core and cladding layer, surrounded by a polymeric overcladding layer which comprises a miscible blend of one or more hydrolytically stable amorphous polymers. By varying the ratios of the component polymers in the overcladding blend, the glass transition temperature and the coefficient of thermal expansion of the overcladding layer may be tuned to optimize the attenuation and bandwidth of the plastic optical fiber.

The forming mold includes an upper mold and a lower mold, the two of which can form an enclosed mold cavity when clamped together, wherein protective films are disposed on inner surfaces of the upper mold and the lower mold, respectively, for supporting PVB material and preventing the PVB material from bonding with the upper mold and the lower mold, and wherein shapes of the protective films match shapes of the upper mold and the lower mold.

The device includes, on each side of the film (F) to be stretched, grasping members for grasping a lateral edge of the film (F), and guide members; first and second guide rails (R1, R2), on which the members and are respectively able to move; first connecting rods connecting the grasping members and the guide members. In an embodiment, each guide member is connected to a single grasping member by one or several of said first connecting rods, and is connected to a first longitudinal adjusting member by one or several second connecting rods connected to the first longitudinal adjusting member; and the device includes adjusting means for adjusting the position and orientation of said first longitudinal adjusting member relative to said first and second guide rail (R1, R2).

The optical stack assembly includes first and second sub-assemblies, each of which include a substrate and a sub-structure fixed to the respective substrate. Each sub-structures includes a respective first edge feature and a respective second edge feature that project away from the substrate of that sub-structure, each second edge feature being disposed laterally closer to an outer periphery of the respective sub-structure than the first edge feature of the same sub-structure. The first edge feature of the first sub-structure is in direct contact with the first edge feature of the second substructure, while the second edge feature of the first sub-structure and the second edge feature of the second sub-structure are attached to one another by adhesive. At least one of the first or second sub-structures includes an optical element on a same side of the sub-structure as the first and second edge features of that sub-structure. The optical element stack assembly further includes a spacer laterally surrounding, and moulded to, the first and second sub-assemblies.
