A method and a system are provided for retaining a side window in a vehicle to meet FMVSS No. 226 standard, where the side window is being secured to an exterior surface of a vehicle body. An optically transparent flexible film laminate is adhered to a visible interior surface of the side window. The optically transparent flexible film laminate has a thickness of between about 0.005 inches and about 0.020 inches. A peripheral edge of the optically transparent flexible film laminate is bonded to an interior surface of the vehicle body. The bonding agent overlaps the peripheral edge and the interior surface at a distance of at least 0.5 inches. The bonding agent can be a Sikaflex-552 adhesive.

The finisher component (11) is connected to the glazing element (10) by the connector (14) which is composed of an encapsulation material which encapsulates the first encapsulation area (A1) and the second encapsulation area (A2). The resulting glazing assembly (1) has a substantially continuous outer surface. The present invention also relates to an encapsulated assembly (1) for an exterior of a vehicle (2). Furthermore, the present invention relates to methods of forming a glazing assembly (1); and an encapsulated assembly (1).

A glass repair tool for injecting resin into defects in glass is provided, having a mount which is removably engageable to the glass and which is in a sliding ratcheted engagement with a resin injector. This ratcheted engagement allows translation of the injector quickly to a contact with the glass to position it for resin injection into the defect. Stretching suction cups and a compressible seal prevent excess force from being imparted to the glass during the contact of the injector with the glass.
