TOPICAL REGIONAL NEURO-AFFECTIVE THERAPY IN MAMMALS WITH CANNABINOIDS
A method of treating a disease state or condition in mammals other than humans via topical brainstem afferent stimulation therapy via the administration of a cannabinoid drug(s) to the back of the neck region and/or spine to provide regional neuro-affective therapy is disclosed. In certain preferred embodiments, the cannabinoid drug(s) are not psychoactive or substantially not psychoactive. In certain embodiments, the cannabinoid drug(s) are incorporated into a pharmaceutically acceptable topical carrier, e.g., a cream or mousse. In certain preferred embodiments, the cannabinoid drug(s) comprises cannabidiol.
Methods for treating GI tract disorders
Provided herein are methods, compositions, and kits for the treatment of an enteric nervous system disorder. Such methods may comprise administering to a subject an effective amount of a phenothiazine compound, a peripherally restricted dopamine decarboxylase inhibitor, and/or a peripherally restricted dopamine D2 receptor antagonist that does not substantially inhibit hERG channels.
POWDERED THICKENER MAINTAINING ITS EXTENSIONAL PROPERTIES WHEN RECONSTITUTED AND FOR PROMOTING SAFE SWALLOWING BY INDIVIDUALS WITH DYSPHAGIA
A thickening powder promotes safe swallowing of a nutritional product by an individual with dysphagia and can be used in methods of treating dysphagia, promoting safe swallowing of a nutritional product, and mitigating a risk of aspiration during swallowing of a nutritional product. The powder contains beta-glucan and at least one carrier ingredient in an amount that is neutral toward or enhances the extensional properties of the nutritional product. The at least one carrier ingredient can be one or more of maltodextrin, isomaltulose, sucrose or lactose. The powder can be diluted in a diluent to form an aqueous solution that is at least a portion of a nutritional product and to improve the cohesiveness of the nutritional product. Preferably, the resultant nutritional product has a shear viscosity greater than 200 mPas and up to about 2,000 mPas, preferably greater than 200 mPas and up to about 500 mPas, more preferably 250 mPas to about 450 mPas, most preferably 250 mPas to about 400 mPas, when measured at a shear rate of 50 s.sup.−1 at a temperature of 20° C.
COMBINATION SEROTONIN SPECIFIC REUPTAKE INHIBITOR AND SEROTONIN 1A RECEPTOR PARTIAL AGONIST FOR REDUCING L-DOPA-INDUCED DYSKINESIA
A method of treating and attenuating L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia, comprising administering an effective dose of at least one pharmacological agent, e.g., vilazodone, having serotonin-specific reuptake inhibition (SSRI) and serotonin receptor 1A (5-HT1AR) partial agonism activity, in conjunction with L-DOPA. Other agents, such as an L-DOPA decarboxylase inhibitor, e.g., carbidopa, or other adjunct treatments may also be provided.
Formulations for oral delivery of adsorbents in the gut
The invention relates to a formulation for the delayed and controlled delivery of an adsorbent into the lower intestine of mammals. The formulation includes a carrageenan and an adsorbent, such as activated charcoal. The invention further relates to uses of this formulation, in particular to pharmaceutical uses. In one embodiment, the formulation is used to eliminate or reduce the side effects in the intestine, in particular in the colon, of pharmaceutical agents that are administered as a treatment for a disorder, but that have side effects when they reach the late ileum, the caecum or the colon.
Methods for treating autism spectrum disorder and associated symptoms
The present disclosure relates to compositions and methods for treating autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by restoring an ASD patient's gut microbiota. These methods can be used with ASD patient with or without ongoing gastrointestinal symptoms. Provided here is a method for ASD treatment in a subject in need thereof comprising or consisting essentially of administering a therapeutic composition comprising a fecal microbe or a fecal microbiota preparation to the subject. Also provided here is a method comprises administering an antibiotic to a human subject; subjecting the human subject to a bowel cleanse; and administering purified fecal microbiota to the human subject. Further provided are evaluation and quantitative characterization of patient symptom improvements upon treatment described here.
Compositions and methods relating to salts of specialized pro-resolving mediators
The present invention relates to compounds of Formulas I-IV, which are salts of special lipid mediators of inflammation, compositions containing same, and methods of using same in the treatment of various diseases and disorders characterized by chronic or excessive inflammation, or both. Provided are pharmaceutical compositions adapted to deliver the compounds the lower gastrointestinal tract and methods of using same as monotherapy in the treatment of inflammatory diseases or disorders of the lower gastrointestinal tract, and in combination therapy with 5-aminosalicylate.
