Occupant detection and classification system

An occupant detection system includes a controller, a sensing electrode, and a shield electrode, the electrodes disposed in a vehicle seat. The controller is electrically coupled to the sensing electrode and shield electrode by a sensing circuit. The controller is configured to send an input signal to the sensing electrode, the shield electrode, or both and measures current, impedance, or capacitance values to determine the presence of an object on the seat, to classify the object, or both.

Occupant protection apparatus

An occupant protection apparatus includes a seat arrangement determination unit that determines the arrangement of seats and a collision determination unit that determines information about collision occurring to a vehicle. A deployment control unit deploys an airbag when the direction of the seat and the direction of the seat determined by the scat arrangement determination unit (94) are opposed to each other, and the direction of the collision determined by the collision determination unit is on the front side of the seat, or on the front side of the seat.

Airbag with notched deployment controlling flap

An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle comprises an airbag inflatable from a stored condition to a deployed condition in which the airbag is positioned between a reaction surface of the vehicle and the occupant. The airbag comprises an upper portion and a lower portion. Each of the upper and lower portions is at least one of rolled and folded. The upper and lower portions are positioned overlying each other when in the stored condition. A deployment flap comprises a sheet of material having a first end portion and an oppositely disposed second end portion. The first end portion is secured to the vehicle. A portion of the deployment flap is positioned between the upper and lower portions. The deployment flap has a notch with opposite side edges converging in a direction toward the first end portion of the deployment flap and terminating at a vertex.

Vehicle seat side airbag

A restraint system includes a seat, a center console spaced from the seat in a cross-vehicle direction, and an airbag inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag in the inflated position includes a first leg elongated in the cross-vehicle direction and spaced from the center console. The airbag in the inflated position includes a second leg supported by the seat and elongated from the first leg towards the center console in a direction transverse to the cross-vehicle direction.

Positional-dependent deployment of vehicle airbags

A positional-dependent airbag deployment system is provided. A plurality of tether cutters are configured to cut at least one of a plurality of tethers affixed to an airbag. An image sensor is configured to monitor the position of an occupant's head within a vehicle. In response to detecting a collision event, an airbag controller determines a trajectory of the occupant's head based on the image sensor data and other data and determines a cutting sequence of the tethers such the airbag will be deployed in a trajectory to intercept the occupant's head.

VEHICLE ACCIDENT NOTIFICATION DEVICE, SYSTEM INCLUDING THE SAME, AND METHOD THEREOF

A vehicle accident notification device includes a processor that determines whether a vehicle accident occurs and a degree of the vehicle accident based on a sensing result of a sensor and vehicle information received from a device of the host vehicle and automatically provides a notification of the vehicle accident, a communicator that communicates with other devices, and a storage storing a collision reference value that is used to determine the degree of the vehicle accident in advance.

Adjusting interior configuration of a vehicle based on vehicle contents

A system and method are provided for improving safety of one or more vehicle occupants. The system may include an interior data collection component configured to collected interior configuration data representing a physical configuration of the interior space of the vehicle, a plurality of vehicle safety components configured to protect the one or more vehicle occupants when deployed and one or more processors configured to determine, by processing the interior vehicle configuration data, a location and orientation of the one or more vehicle occupants; select a subset of the plurality of vehicle safety components to be active based on the location and orientation of the one or more vehicle occupants; and set the selected subset of the plurality of vehicle safety components to an active state in which the selected subset of the plurality of vehicle safety components is deployed when an emergency condition is detected.

An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes an airbag configured to be mounted to a seat back of a vehicle seat. The airbag is inflatable between the seat back and an adjacent side structure of the vehicle to one of a first deployed condition in which the airbag is configured for a non-reclined condition of the vehicle seat, and a second deployed condition in which the airbag is configured for a reclined condition of the vehicle seat. The airbag is configured to deploy to the first deployed condition in response to determining a non-reclined condition of the vehicle seat and to the second deployed condition in response to determining a reclined condition of the vehicle seat.

REAR OCCUPANT IMPACT ABSORPTION ASSEMBLY

An impact absorption assembly for a seat back is provided having a deformation zone as least partially disposed above a top surface of a seat back structure. The deformation zone deforms plastically upon an impact from a rearward direction.

Passenger protection system for vehicle

A passenger protection system for a vehicle includes: a seat which slides forwards and backwards and rotates laterally, where the seat has a seat belt equipped with a belt airbag, and a side airbag provided on a side of a seatback of the seat; a front airbag provided in a front structure located in front of the seat of the vehicle to be deployed towards the seat; a curtain airbag provided in a pillar trim on an upper end of a vehicle door to be deployed downwards; and a controller to selectively deploy the belt airbag, the side airbag, the front airbag and the curtain airbag, depending on a sliding position and a rotating direction of the seat and a detection or a predicted direction of a vehicle collision.
