A vehicle airbag control system has an airbag module, a detector and an electronic controller. The airbag module has an airbag that is configured to be positioned below a vehicle floor panel in an undeployed state. The airbag that is configured to be positioned to be above the vehicle floor panel in the deployed state. The detector is configured to detect a presence of an obstruction over the airbag module at a location above the vehicle floor panel. The electronic controller is programmed to deploy the airbag based on a detected result of the detector.

A passenger seat is described which satisfies a head-injury criterion (HIC). To satisfy the HIC, the passenger seat translates or pivots one or more components of the seatback towards a passenger sitting behind the passenger seat. By translating and/or pivoting the components of the seatback towards the passenger, a crush zone for the passenger seat may be increased, thereby increasing the impact time and correspondingly decreasing the forces felt by the passenger.

An assembly includes an instrument panel and a base rotatably mounted to the instrument panel between a front position and a stowed position. An interior component is supported by the base. A spring biases the base toward the stowed position.

In one embodiment, a method includes isolating airflow to an occupant by actuation of a partition in response to a signal indicating a risk and the partition utilizes an inflatable bladder to seal an area of a compartment in a vehicle. An assembly for a vehicle includes a vehicle roof and a panel rotatably connected to the vehicle roof. The panel is rotatable away from the vehicle roof from a stowed position to a deployed position. The assembly includes an airbag supported on the panel. The airbag is inflatable from the panel in a vehicle-forward direction when the panel is in the deployed position.

A vehicle includes a vehicle body defining an interior cabin having an occupant cabin and a cargo cabin. A seatback is in the occupant cabin. The seatback has a seatback frame elongated along an upright axis. A panel is elongated along the upright axis of the seatback frame. The panel is slidably engaged with the seatback frame. The panel is slidable relative to the seatback frame along the upright axis from a stowed position to a deployed position. The panel is stowed relative to the seatback frame in the stowed position and elongated away from the seatback frame along the upright axis between the occupant cabin and the cargo cabin in the deployed position. A pyrotechnic actuator is fixed to the seatback frame and operatively engaged with the panel to deploy the panel from the stowed position to the deployed position.

A seat assembly having an occupant protection system. The occupant protection system may have a deployable shield. The deployable shield may extend around multiple sides of the seat assembly, may extend at least partially around a front of a seat occupant when deployed, may be deployable along a dynamic deployment path based on a detected position of a seat occupant, or combinations thereof.
