A method of calibrating cameras of a multi-camera vision system for a vehicle moving along a vehicle assembly line includes equipping the vehicle as it moves along the vehicle assembly line with a plurality of cameras and equipping the vehicle with an image processor for processing image data captured by the cameras. As the vehicle moves along the vehicle assembly line, a driver-side target at a driver-side region of the vehicle assembly line is present within the fields of view of front, driver-side and rear cameras and a passenger-side target at a passenger-side region of the vehicle assembly line is present within the fields of view of the front, passenger-side and rear cameras. The cameras are calibrated responsive to processing image data of the driver-side target captured by the front, rear and driver-side cameras and image data of the passenger-side target captured by the front, rear and passenger-side cameras.

METHOD FOR DETERMINING MISALIGNMENT OF A VEHICULAR CAMERA
20210001774 · 2021-01-07 ·

A method for determining misalignment of a vehicular camera includes equipping a vehicle with a vehicular vision system having an electronic control unit and a plurality of cameras disposed at the vehicle so that each camera has a respective field of view exterior of the vehicle. Responsive to processing at the electronic control unit of received vehicle data during driving of the vehicle, the vehicular vision system determines a vehicle motion vector during driving of the vehicle. Frames of image data captured by the plurality of cameras are processed to determine an object motion vector of a detected object based on positions of the detected object in frames of image data captured by the camera. The determined object motion vector is compared to the determined vehicle motion vector to determine via the vehicular vision system that the camera of the plurality of cameras is misaligned.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CALIBRATING A PLURALITY OF CAMERAS

A camera calibration method includes obtaining a plurality of images of surroundings of a vehicle captured by a plurality of cameras, setting a region of interest (ROI) in each of the images, detecting one or more feature points of the set ROIs, matching a first feature point of a first ROI and a second feature point of a second ROI based on the detected feature points, calculating a first bird-view coordinate of the first feature point and a second bird-view coordinate of the second feature point, and calibrating the cameras by adjusting an extrinsic parameter of each of the cameras based on an error between the first bird-view coordinate and the second bird-view coordinate.

Automated Creation of a Freeform Mask for Automotive Cameras

A system, method, and non-transitory computer-readable medium are provided for creating a freeform field of view mask for a camera in a vehicle to increase the field of view of the camera during operation of the vehicle. The camera captures an image of a portion of the vehicle in front of a calibration screen. A processor includes logic that applies a blurring filter to the captured image to create a blurred image, determines a freeform boundary of a field of view of the camera in the blurred image, creates a field of view mask based on the freeform boundary; and applies the field of view mask to the camera for maximizing the field of view of the camera during operation of the vehicle.

Targetless vehicle camera calibration system

A method of calibrating a vehicular camera includes mounting a camera at a vehicle moving along a vehicle assembly line. Responsive to processing of image data captured by the camera, features at the ground adjacent to the vehicle are determined and the determined features are tracked over two or more frames of captured image data. Responsive to processing of frames of captured image data during movement of the vehicle along a straight path, a misalignment of the camera is determined. The misaligned camera is calibrated using an assumption that the determined ground features lie in a plane parallel to a planar portion of the ground surface adjacent the straight path portion of the vehicle assembly line. The determination of misalignment and the calibration of the camera are performed without use of a target pattern at the vehicle assembly line.
