FIBER FOR PROTEIN ADSORPTION AND COLUMN FOR PROTEIN ADSORPTION

A fiber for protein adsorption has a water absorption percentage of 1 to 50%, and the fiber includes a polymer containing as repeat units an aromatic hydrocarbon or a derivative thereof, wherein part of aromatic rings contained in the repeat units are cross-linked through a structure represented by Formula (I). A column for protein adsorption uses the fibers. A in Formula (I) is selected from an alkyl aliphatic group, phenyl aromatic group and amino group.

METHOD FOR THE TREATMENT OF A POROUS SUBSTRATE

A method for the treatment of a substrate; the substrate comprises hollow fibre membranes, each of which has a side wall, comprising a base material, and an inner lumen, which is delimited by the side wall; the base material comprises a polysulfone or a derivative thereof; the substrate is placed in contact with graphene oxide in the presence of a liquid so as to obtain an intermediate compound, from which the liquid is at least partially removed and which is thermally treated so that the graphene oxide is at least partially fixed to the substrate and a treated material is obtained comprising treated fibres.

ABSORPTION AND FILTRATION MEDIA

Disclosed are keratin fibre cellular components, specifically keratin fibre cuticle and cortical cells, and their use as absorption and filtration media, and in thermal insulation materials. The keratin fibre cellular components may be oxidised. The keratin fibre cellular components have improved absorbency and filtration capacity compared to the source keratin fibres. The keratin fibre cellular components may be used in, for example, various products for passive absorption and active filtration of gas or liquid media.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROCESSING COAL FOR USE IN A DIRECT AIR CAPTURE SYSTEM

Embodiments discloses herein relate to methods of processing coal. A method to process coal includes subjecting raw coal to a liquefaction process effective to form a liquid pitch resin and subjecting the liquid pitch resin to a filtration process. The method further includes subjecting the liquid pitch resin to a low crystallinity spinning process to form a raw fiber. The raw fiber is then further subjected to a stabilization process configured to oxygen cross-link the fiber to form a stabilized fiber and then subjecting the stabilized fiber to a carbonization process to form a low thermal conductivity carbon fiber.

COMPOSITE VIRUCIDAL FILTER MEDIA

A composite virucidal filter media is described. The filter media comprises a fibrous substrate comprising a plurality of intermingled fibers, a low cost, nontoxic, hydrophilic polymer without acidic functional groups deposited on a surface of the fibers without the formation of a continuous coating layer on the substrate, and a virucidal metal, a virucidal metal-containing compound, or combinations thereof deposited on the surface of the fibers comprising the hydrophilic polymer without acidic functional groups. The hydrophilic polymer without acidic functional groups can be charged or non-charged. Methods of making virucidal fibrous filter media are also described.

Desulfurization and Sulfur Tolerant Hydrogenation Processes of Hydrocarbon Feedstocks
20220184580 · 2022-06-16 ·

The present invention is a method for removing sulfur from liquid hydrocarbon feedstocks and for performing hydrogenation reactions in sulfur-contaminated feedstocks, including the hydrogenation of naphthalene in the presence of sulfur compounds, using catalysts or adsorbents comprising metal oxide nanowires decorated with reduced catalytically-active metal particles. In a preferred embodiment, the adsorbent comprises zinc oxide nanowires decorated with catalytically-active metals selected from nickel, cobalt, molybdenum, platinum, palladium, copper, oxides thereof, alloys thereof, and combinations thereof. In some embodiments, the sulfur is removed through a desulfurization process without an external hydrogen supply. The process is effective for the removal of sulfur from diesel fuels and liquid fuel streams, and for deep desulfurization of natural gas streams. The process is also effective for the selective hydrogenation of naphthalene to tetralin in the presence of sulfur compounds.
