Microfluidic device and method for manufacturing a microfluidic device
A method for manufacturing a microfluidic device includes providing a first substrate having a first surface and a second surface located opposite the first surface. An etching mask is produced on the first surface, the etching mask having an opening. A recess is produced by etching in the first surface in a region of the opening. An electrically conductive material is deposited on the etching mask and/or a layer covering the etching mask, and on a region of a bottom of the recess below the opening.
MICROFLUIDIC DEVICE AND METHOD FOR QUANTIFYING CONTACT LENS DEPOSITION
Disclosed herein are methods for quantifying contact lens deposition. An example method may comprise disposing a contact lens sample in a fluid well. The example method may comprise disposing a volume of tear fluid in the well with the contact lens sample. The example method may comprise capturing pre-rinse images of the contact lens sample. The example method may comprise rinsing the contact lens sample. The example method may comprise capturing post-rinse images of the contact lens after the rinsing. The example method may comprise determining, using one or more of the tear images or the post-rinse images, a deposition metric. The example method may comprise outputting the deposition metric.
Electrowetting-based pump
Microfluidic pumps are provided that use electrowetting to manipulate the location of one or more droplets of a working fluid (e.g., water) in order to pump tears, blood, laboratory samples, carrier fluid, or some other payload fluid. The working fluid is separated from the payload fluid by one or more droplets of an isolating fluid that is immiscible with the working fluid. The working fluid is manipulated via electrowetting, by applying voltages to two or more electrodes, to repeatedly move back and forth. Forces, pressures, and/or fluid flows exerted by the working fluid are coupled to the payload fluid via the droplet(s) of isolation fluid and reed valves, diffuser nozzles, or other varieties of valve can act as flow-rectifying elements to convert the coupled forces into a net flow of the payload fluid through the pump.
COVER MEMBER, METHOD AND TREATMENT MODULE FOR TREATING A BIOLOGICAL SAMPLE ON A SUBSTRATE
A cover member for a substrate supporting a biological sample comprises first and second opposing ends, first and second opposing surfaces, a void in the second surface which, when juxtaposed with a substrate, forms a chamber, and a fluid inlet toward the first end and in fluid communication with the void. The void is bounded by void walls having one or more contoured regions for enhancing fluid movement within the chamber. A treatment module for a biological sample comprises the cover member, a support surface for a substrate bearing the biological sample and clamp means operable to releasably retain the cover member in juxtaposition with the substrate for an incubation period. A method for incubating the biological sample with one or more reagents uses the cover member.
MICROFLUIDIC DEVICE, SYSTEM AND METHODS THEREOF FOR MEASURING AND RECORDING ELECTRICAL SIGNALS FROM A POOL OF MULTIPLE NEMATODES
The present disclosure provides a microfluidic device and system for measuring a composite electropharyngeogram (EPG) signal from a pool of multiple nematodes, wherein the composite EPG signal is measured from the pool of nematodes present in a single recording channel connected to two or more integrated electrodes. The microfluidic device includes an inlet port and outlet port directly connected to a single recording channel and two or more electrodes directly connected to the recording channel. The recording channel is configured to hold 10 to 10,000 nematodes.
Methods, carrier assemblies, and systems for imaging samples for biological or chemical analysis
Method includes positioning a first carrier assembly on a system stage. The carrier assembly includes a support frame having an inner frame edge that defines a window of the support frame. The first carrier assembly includes a first substrate that is positioned within the window and surrounded by the inner frame edge. The first substrate has a sample thereon. The method includes detecting optical signals from the sample of the first substrate. The method also includes replacing the first carrier assembly on the system stage with a second carrier assembly on the system stage. The second carrier assembly includes the support frame and an adapter plate held by the support frame. The second carrier assembly has a second substrate held by the adapter plate that has a sample thereon. The method also includes detecting optical signals from the sample of the second substrate.
Chemiluminescence measurement apparatus
Disclosed is a chemiluminescence measurement apparatus that includes: a support member configured to support a cartridge for measuring a test substance contained in a specimen by chemiluminescence measurement; a motor configured to rotate the support member so as to rotate the cartridge such that a process required for the chemiluminescence measurement proceeds in the cartridge; and a light receiver configured to receive light generated by chemiluminescence in the cartridge that is supported by the support member rotated by the motor. The cartridge supported by the support member and a light receiving surface of the light receiver are disposed inside a dark space surrounded by a light-shielding portion, and the motor is disposed outside the dark space.

Acoustophoresis device having improved dimensions
Systems and methods for cleansing blood are disclosed herein. The methods include acoustically separating target particles from elements of whole blood. The whole blood and capture particles are flowed through a microfluidic separation channel formed in a thermoplastic. At least one bulk acoustic transducer is attached to the microfluidic separation channel. A standing acoustic wave, imparted on the channel and its contents by the bulk acoustic transducer, drives the formed elements of the blood and target particles to specific aggregation axes.
