MULTIPLEXER FOR CONTROLLING FLUID IN MICROFLUIDICS CHIP AND MICROFLUIDICS CHIP ASSEMBLY
A multiplexer for controlling a fluid in a microchannel by controlling pneumatic pressure in the microchannel in a microfluidics chip includes: a first pneumatic channel; and a second pneumatic channel forming a cross point which is in communication with the first pneumatic channel, wherein the cross point is in communication with the microchannel of the microfluidics chip, and predetermined pneumatic pressure is provided to the microchannel by using a combination of providing of the pneumatic pressure to the first and second pneumatic channels, channel closing, or channel opening.
Photonic superlattice-based devices and compositions for use in luminescent imaging, and methods of using the same
Under one aspect, a device is provided for use in luminescent imaging. The device can include a photonic superlattice including a first material, the first material having a first refractive index. The first material can include first and second major surfaces and first and second pluralities of features defined through at least one of the first and second major surfaces, the features of the first plurality differing in at least one characteristic from the features of the second plurality. The photonic superlattice can support propagation of a first wavelength and a second wavelength approximately at a first angle out of the photonic superlattice, the first and second wavelengths being separated from one another by a first non-propagating wavelength that does not selectively propagate at the first angle out of the photonic superlattice.
REMOVABLE MICROPARTICLE SORTER CARTRIDGE
A removable cartridge for a microparticle sorter. The removable microparticle sorter cartridge may be used with a microparticle sorter to sort and collect microparticles using a series of fluidic channels having a specific orientation and geometry and a series of inlets/ports. By adjusting the flow rates within the channels and applying either positive or negative pressures at the various inlets, microparticles may be sorted based upon a pre-determined characteristic. The disposable microparticle sorter is intended to be used with a corresponding microparticle sorting apparatus.
MOBILE MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM WITH WIRELESS COMMUNICATION
A mobile, self contained molecular diagnostics system is provided with a microfluidic chip, detection apparatus and an integrated or wireless control interface and imager. The system provides automated sample preparation and rapid optical detection of multianalyte nucleic acids and proteins. On chip PCR may be performed to improve the optical fluorescence signal for nucleic acid detections. Plasmonic protein detection is performed using a dark field smartphone microscope. Dark field illumination is based on an evanescent field generated by LED total internal reflection. The smartphone element may also be used as an interface to control the detection apparatus, acquire images, process data and for wireless communications with remote computers. The handheld automated system has low power requirements and is particularly suited for point of care and on demand diagnostics in resource limited settings.
PARTICLE MANIPULATION SYSTEM WITH OUT-OF-PLANE CHANNEL AND VARIABLE CROSS SECTION FOCUSING ELEMENT
A particle manipulation system uses a MEMS-based, microfabricated particle manipulation device which has a sample inlet channel, output channels, and a movable member formed on a substrate. The device may be used to separate a target particle from non-target material in a sample stream. In order to improve the sorter speed, accuracy or yield, the particle manipulation system may also include a microfluidic structure which focuses the target particles in a particular portion of the sample inlet channel. This focusing element may include cavities of variable cross section along the channel length. In addition, a filtering element may also be included upstream of the focusing element.
Methods of introducing a fluid into droplets
Various aspects of the present invention relate to the control and manipulation of fluidic species, for example, in microfluidic systems. In one aspect, the invention relates to systems and methods for making droplets of fluid surrounded by a liquid, using, for example, electric fields, mechanical alterations, the addition of an intervening fluid, etc. In another aspect, the invention relates to systems and methods for dividing a fluidic droplet into two droplets, for example, through charge and/or dipole interactions with an electric field. The invention also relates to systems and methods for fusing droplets, according to another aspect of the invention, for example, through charge and/or dipole interactions. Another aspect of the invention provides the ability to determine droplets, or a component thereof, for example, using fluorescence and/or other optical techniques (e.g., microscopy), or electric sensing techniques such as dielectric sensing.
In situ-generated microfluidic isolation structures, kits and methods of use thereof
In situ-generated microfluidic isolation structures incorporating a solidified polymer network, methods of preparation and use, compositions and kits therefor are described. The ability to introduce in real time, a variety of isolating structures including pens and barriers offers improved methods of micro-object manipulation in microfluidic devices. The in situ-generated isolation structures may be permanently or temporarily installed.
