Desensitized adjustable bumper

An adjustable bumper assembly includes a bumper assembly insert having a bumper head, a threaded portion connected to the bumper head and a ratchet portion extending from the threaded portion. A coupling ring is threadably connected to the threaded portion. The coupling ring has a ratchet device with a tooth biased into contact with the ratchet portion. A base member includes multiple retention arms homogeneously connected to the base member extending away from a face of the base member. The coupling ring when slidably received in a through passage created in the face of the base member contacts the retention arms. The coupling ring is non-rotatably engaged to the base member such that axial rotation of the bumper assembly insert with respect to the coupling ring axially extends or retracts the bumper assembly insert with respect to the base member.

SELF-DIAGNOSING PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION SENSOR SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE

A self-diagnosing sensor system for a vehicle is provided. The vehicle has a bumper with fascia material. The sensor system includes an elongated, deflectable cable disposed in the bumper generally adjacent to the fascia material. A tensioning and sensing unit is coupled to each end of the cable and fixed to the vehicle. Each unit includes a tension sensor electrically connected with an ECU of the vehicle such that the ECU receives signals from the tension sensors regarding tension in the cable, indicative of 1) whether the bumper has been impacted based on deflection of the cable from a sensing position, or 2) whether damage to the cable or a tensioning and sensing unit has occurred.

VEHICLE BODY REAR STRUCTURE

A vehicle body rear structure includes: a rear panel provided in a rear part of a vehicle body; a bumper beam attached to a structural member provided in the rear part of the vehicle body; a sensor holding member attached to the rear panel; and a sensor attached to the sensor holding member and configured to detect surrounding information on a rear side of a vehicle, wherein an entirety of the sensor is positioned more forward than a rear end of the bumper beam, lower than a lower end of the bumper beam, and higher than a departure angle face.

BUMPER

Provided is a bumper capable of improving a maneuvering stability of a vehicle. The bumper is a front bumper 7 to be attached to a front lower portion of a vehicle 1. Flow-straightening protrusions 31 each formed along a vehicular front-rear direction are provided on a lower portion of the front bumper 7 in a way such that they are aligned along a vehicular width direction across a region on an extended line 36 of a vehicular width direction inner end portion 2T of each of front wheels 2L, 2R of the vehicle 1. Thus, the occurrence of turbulent flows around the front wheels 2L, 2R can be restricted so that a vehicle stability can be improved.

Impact beam for vehicles

An exemplary impact beam for a vehicle includes a body defining a longitudinal axis of the impact beam. The body has a first longitudinal surface laterally separated from a second longitudinal surface, a first end including a first extension and a second extension such that the first and second extensions form a T-shape with the first and second longitudinal surfaces of the body, and a second end opposite the first end, the second end including a first extended portion and a second extended portion connected to the first extended portion by a connecting surface. The first extended portion is configured to extend into a first crush space defined by a fascia of the vehicle and the second extended portion is configured to extend into a second crush space defined by the fascia of the vehicle.

BUMPER ASSEMBLY

A bumper assembly includes a bumper beam elongated in a cross-vehicle direction and a bumper that is plastic. The bumper is elongated in the cross-vehicle direction and is affixed to the bumper beam. The bumper beam is rigid relative to the bumper. The bumper defines a cavity enclosed by the bumper. The cavity is elongated in the cross-vehicle direction.

Grill shutter device for vehicle

A grill shutter device for vehicle includes a grill, a shutter, and a drive source. The grill is provided with an opening penetrating the grill in the front/rear direction. The shutter includes fins opening and closing the opening, lining up in a vehicular width direction, and curving so as to fit into a curved configuration of the grill. The drive source drives the shutter so that the fins open and close the opening. The fins include a body plate, and a support shaft fixed to the body plate, extending in a direction linearly linking between vehicular-width-direction opposite ends of a corresponding site in the opening, and supported to the grill so as to rotate when actuated by the drive source. Moreover, a universal joint joins between the support shafts of two of the fins neighboring one another in the vehicular width direction.

VEHICLE FRONT BUMPER FASCIA ASSEMBLY FOR DIRECTING AIR AND WATER FLOW

Vehicular front bumper and fascia assemblies are provided. According to one implementation, a fascia is configured to cover a front bumper of a vehicle. The fascia includes fluid conduits configured to provide fluid flows to the front wheels and redirection portals that intersect the fluid conduits. The redirection portals provide fluid flows away from and/or around the front wheels. The fascia also includes adjustable panels associated with the fluid conduits. When the vehicle is travelling at a velocity below a predetermined lower level, the adjustable panels are configured to open the fluid conduits so as to provide the fluid flows toward the front wheels. When the vehicle is travelling at a velocity above a predetermined upper level, the adjustable panels are configured to close the fluid conduits and redirect the fluid flows through the redirection portals away from and/or around the front wheels.

Problem: To integrate portions of lamps and sensors with a bumper fascia, reduce the number of components and the number of man-hours for assembly, and easily assemble a vehicle exterior assembly to an outer surface of a vehicle body.

Solution: In an exterior assembly 11 for being installed on a front surface of a vehicle body, head lamps 13 and fog lamps 14 that provide illumination in front of a vehicle and sensors 15 that collect information from in front of the vehicle are arranged in vertical rows on a bumper fascia 12. Lens portions 18 and 21 of the lamps 13 and 14 and antenna portions 24 of the sensors 15 are integrally formed with both right and left ends of the bumper fascia 12. Body portions 19 and 22 of the lamps 13 and 14 and case portions 25 of the sensors 15 are integrally formed in a separate molding step from that for the bumper fascia 12 and assembled to a back surface of the bumper fascia 12 as single components.
