An after treatment method for a lean-burn engine is disclosed. The after treatment method is configured to control an after treatment system sequentially equipped with an ammonia production catalyst module, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, and a CO clean-up catalyst (CUC) on an exhaust pipe through which an exhaust gas flows and which is connected to a lean-burn engine. NH.sub.3 generation in the ammonia production catalyst module is changed according to a temperature and a temperature change rate of the SCR catalyst.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL
Methods and systems are provided for a low temperature NOx adsorber (LTNA). In one example, a method includes operating in a first mode, the first mode including storing exhaust NOx in an LTNA, heating the LTNA until an LTNA outlet temperature reaches a first threshold temperature, and then converting released NOx in a downstream selective catalyst reduction (SCR) device; and operating in a second mode, the second mode including heating the LTNA until the LTNA outlet temperature reaches a second threshold temperature, higher than the first threshold temperature, and converting exhaust NOx in the SCR device.

An after treatment method for a lean-burn engine is disclosed. The after treatment method is configured to control an after treatment system sequentially equipped with an ammonia production catalyst module, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, and a CO clean-up catalyst (CUC) on an exhaust pipe through which an exhaust gas flows and which is connected to a lean-burn engine. In the after treatment method, a rich air/fuel ratio (AFR) is controlled in multiple phases in response to detecting that conversion to the rich AFR is desired.
COMBINED NOx ABSORBER AND SCR CATALYST
The present invention is directed to selective catalytic reduction catalysts that combine SCR activity with NOx absorber activity. In particular, the disclosed catalytic article includes a substrate having a first and a second material disposed thereon, wherein the first material includes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst composition and the second material includes a nitrogen oxides (NOx) absorber composition, wherein the NOx absorber composition does not substantially oxidize ammonia, and wherein the catalytic article is effective to abate NOx from an engine exhaust gas stream. Emission treatment systems for treating an exhaust gas including a catalytic article of the invention are provided, particularly systems that include an injector adapted for the addition of ammonia to the exhaust gas stream located upstream of the catalytic article.

In a second mode, exhaust gas entering the inlet flows through the second set of exhaust after-treatment components without flowing through the first set of exhaust after-treatment components, and then through the outlet in a third mode, exhaust gas entering the inlet flows through the first set of exhaust after-treatment components, then through the second set of exhaust after-treatment components, and then through the outlet.
