A method of forming a gas treatment element for use in a gas treatment apparatus, such as a desiccant dryer, is disclosed. The element is formed by casting a sheet material by phase inversion of a dope mixture including a solvent, an adsorbent material such as a desiccant and a polymer binder. Layers of the sheet material are located adjacent one another and this is most readily achieved by rolling the sheet material to form the gas treatment element.

Provided are: a silver-carrying zeolite molded article in which aggregation of silver is inhibited and which has excellent capability of dispersing silver, when compared to conventional silver-carrying zeolite molded articles; and a method for producing the silver-carrying zeolite molded article. In the silver-carrying zeolite molded article, the molar ratio of Si/Al.sub.2 is 2.0-3.0, the molar ratio of (alkali metal+Ag)/Al is 0.9-1.1, the total amount of SiO.sub.2, Al.sub.2O.sub.3, Ag.sub.2O, and alkali metal oxides is 90 wt % or more, the contained amount of silver ions is 5 wt % or more, and only a single type of zeolite is contained. The molded article can be produced by subjecting a zeolite molded article having zeolite purity of 90% or more to an ion exchange treatment using a silver-containing aqueous solution.

The present invention provides for an oil pad having an oil absorbing medium which is formed or compressed to a particular shape. It is intended that such oil absorbing pad can be placed over an oily spill, or in a container containing oil, whereby the formed shape optimizes oil absorption by wicking oil to the interior of the pad, being sufficient to absorb and retain large volumes of oil, or to expand as oil is absorbed to expose one or more potions of the pad to the oil volume to be absorbed. The inventive oil absorbing pad reduces waste, does not create a mess when disposing, and effortlessly absorbs oil from an oily surface.

SORBENT STORAGE OF HYDROCARBON GAS

Sorbent sheets containing sorbent and binder may be used for efficient adsorption and desorption of low-density hydrocarbons to the sorbent, such as activated carbon, therein. One or more sheets, optionally arranged in a multi-layered configuration, may be included in a housing for improved storage and transportation of low-density hydrocarbons such as natural gas.

Adsorption and desorption apparatus

An adsorption apparatus and associated method for capturing a target gaseous adsorbate from an atmospheric air based gaseous feed stream. The adsorption apparatus includes a housing enclosing at least one adsorption element for adsorbing the target gaseous adsorbate, at least one substrate coated with an adsorptive composite coating that comprises at least 50 wt % metal organic framework and at least one binder, the housing having an inlet through which the gaseous feed stream can flow to the adsorption element and an outlet through which gas can flow out from the housing; and a desorption arrangement in contact with and/or surrounding the at least one adsorption element.

PROGRAMMABLE POLYMER CAFFEINE EXTRACTION

The invention relates to a caffeine-templated MIP copolymer matrix and devices employing these polymers that exhibit high absorbance or binding capacity for caffeine while retaining rapid caffeine uptake kinetics, and which function in both cold and hot aqueous environments to selectively remove caffeine from a beverage with a high selectivity factor in order to better preserve the sensory aspects of the decaffeinated beverage, and which can easily be used by a typical consumer to treat their beverage within a short time frame of less than about one minute. More specifically, the invention relates to copolymeric MIP matrices produced according to methods wherein the template to polymer ratio is dramatically increased in order to raise the affinity of the resulting MIP materials, and hyper-crosslinked MIP matrices produced using higher amounts of crosslinking agents to produce high affinity copolymer matrices that better maintain a high degree of selectivity towards caffeine while minimizing the uptake of congeners to better maintain the sensory characteristics of the decaffeinated beverages. The invention further relates to manual and mechanical devices employing the inventive MIP matrices in a variety of physical forms and configurations that enable a user to decaffeinate a beverage manually or automatically within one minute or less, or select a level of decaffeination by controlling the exposure time to said devices.
