Automated microscopic cell analysis
This disclosure describes single-use test cartridges, cell analyzer apparatus, and methods for automatically performing microscopic cell analysis tasks, such as counting and analyzing blood cells in biological samples. A small measured quantity of a biological sample, such as whole blood, is placed in a mixing bowl on the disposable test cartridge after being inserted into the cell analyzer. The analayzer also deposits a known amount of diluent/stain in the mixing bowl and mixes it with the blood. The analyzer takes a measured amount of the mixture and dispenses in a sample cup on the cartridge in fluid communication with an imaging chamber. The geometry of the imaging chamber is chosen to maintain the uniformity of the mixture, and to prevent cells from crowding or clumping as it is transferred into the imaging chamber by the analyzer. Images of all of the cellular components within the imaging chamber are counted and analyzed to obtain a complete blood count.
Systems and methods for biochemical analysis including a base instrument and a removable cartridge
Systems and methods for conducting designated reactions utilizing a base instrument and a removable cartridge. The removable cartridge includes a fluidic network that receives and fluidically directs a biological sample to conduct the designated reactions. The removable cartridge also includes a flow-control valve that is operably coupled to the fluidic network and is movable relative to the fluidic network to control flow of the biological sample therethrough. The removable cartridge is configured to separably engage a base instrument. The base instrument includes a valve actuator that engages the flow-control valve of the removable cartridge. A detection assembly held by at least one of the removable cartridge or the base instrument may be used to detect the designated reactions.
FLUIDIC DEVICE, SYSTEM, AND METHOD
A fluidic device includes: a first flow path in which two or more solutions are mixed; and a second circulation flow path in which a solution mixed in the first flow path is circulated and which has a capture part configured to capture a sample substance included in the solution and/or a detection part configured to detect a sample substance included in the solution.
Tissue sample processing system and associated methods
A tissue sample processing system and associated methods is disclosed and described. The tissue sample processing system (100) can include a microfluidic separating system (110). The microfluidic separating system (110) can include a fluid channel to receive a carrier fluid (104) and a tissue sample (102), and a plurality of outlets. Flow of the carrier fluid (104) and the tissue sample (102) in the fluid channel can facilitate segregation of materials in the tissue sample (102) based on size into a plurality of size fractions, such that each one of the plurality of outlets receives a different size fraction of the materials in the tissue sample. In addition, the sample processing system (100) can comprise a cryopreservation system (120) associated with at least one of the plurality of outlets to freeze the material in the tissue sample (102) associated with the at least one of the plurality of outlets.
Target Analysis Chip and Target Analysis Method
The present invention provides a novel target analysis chip and analysis method for directly detecting a target such as a microRNA without performing PCR.
Pin-based valve actuation system for processing biological samples
A system and method for processing and detecting nucleic acids from a set of biological samples, comprising: a molecular diagnostic module configured to receive nucleic acids bound to magnetic beads, isolate nucleic acids, and analyze nucleic acids, comprising a cartridge receiving module, a heating/cooling subsystem and a magnet configured to facilitate isolation of nucleic acids, a valve actuation subsystem including an actuation substrate, and a set of pins interacting with the actuation substrate, and a spring plate configured to bias at least one pin in a configurations, the valve actuation subsystem configured to control fluid flow through a microfluidic cartridge for processing nucleic acids, and an optical subsystem for analysis of nucleic acids; and a fluid handling system configured to deliver samples and reagents to components of the system to facilitate molecular diagnostic protocols.
MICROBIAL ANALYSIS WITHOUT CELL PURIFICATION
The invention provides systems and methods for rapid automated identification of microbes and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) directly from a patient specimen, without specimen preparation. Specimens are loaded into an analytical cartridge for processing. Analytical cartridges are preloaded with species-specific labels that are used to identify and enumerate microbes in the specimen. Instruments, such as analyzers can be used to interact with analytical cartridges to carry out methods of the invention all within the cartridge.
FLOW CELL WITH PREDETERMINED BREAKING BARRIER
A flow cell with a predetermined breaking barrier in a duct region of the flow cell. The flow cell has a cut-out in a substrate of the flow cell, which forms a portion of the duct region and has an opening in a surface of the substrate. The opening is hermetically sealed by a barrier film fused and/or glued to the surface and forming the predetermined breaking barrier. A layer is provided to be arranged over the barrier film. The layer can be stretched into the cut-out on breaking of the barrier film and formation of an access to a duct region section bounded by the barrier film and the layer.
TEST DEVICE FOR NUCLEIC ACID
The present invention provides a test device for nucleic acid, including a sample treatment chamber, a sample reaction chamber and a test chamber which are disposed from top to bottom successively. The functions of sampling, nucleic acid purification, isothermal amplification and testing result reading by immunochromatography are integrated onto a device to prepare a simple and cute test device for nucleic acid; the device can achieve nucleic acid testing only by two rotations and can ensure that each sampling or reagent adding can reach the target area in a free falling way without any extra drainage facility. The present invention has lower costs, more convenient operation, high detection sensitivity, short time required in nucleic acid testing, and can be used for nucleic acid testing of various samples, such as human and animals.
