The invention relates to a capsule for use in a device for preparing beverages. The invention furthermore relates to a method for producing a capsule according to the invention. The invention also relates to an assembly of such a capsule and to a device for preparing beverages.

A single-dose capsule for preparing beverages having a cup made of aluminum and defined by a bottom wall, a collar and an annular side wall is provided. The cup is closed by a cover. The collar has a flat horizontal portion to which the cover is fastened, and a plastically deformable seal step for making a seal with an infusion chamber of an extraction device. The plastically deformable seal step has a tilted raised portion. The annular side wall has a centering step for centering the cup inside the infusion chamber of the extraction device. The centering step has a tilted raised portion.

A capsule is proposed herein including: a casing that extends about an axis, which includes a base wall and a side wall defining a cavity containing an initial product to be joined to a fluid to obtain a final product, and a flanged edge extending from said side wall; a covering element, fixed to the flanged edge to close the cavity; a sealing element, associated with the flanged edge to make a fluidic seal with a dispensing machine; wherein the sealing element includes a cellulose-based ring; and wherein the ring includes a stratified structure including at least two cellulose-based layers, between which there is an outer layer arranged towards the outside and configured to contact the dispensing machine and an inner layer; a joining layer to enable the ring to be joined to the flanged edge; and a further joining layer, to join together the two cellulose-based layers.

A capsule containing a substance for the preparation of a potable beverage. The capsule comprises an aluminum capsule body having a side wall and an outwardly extending flange and a sealing member at the outwardly extending flange for providing a fluid sealing contact with an enclosing member of a beverage preparation device. The beverage preparation device comprises an annular element having a free contact end which may be provided with a plurality of radially extending open grooves. The sealing member is integral with the outwardly extending flange and comprises at least one projection projecting from the outwardly extending flange. The projection comprising a projection top and is configured such that its projection top exerts a radial force on the free contact end of the annular element if the capsule is positioned in the enclosing member of the beverage preparation device and the enclosing member is closed by means of a closing member of the beverage preparation device.

An apparatus for making capsules, includes: a receiving station for receiving capsule bodies having bottom and side walls defining a filling cavity with an opening opposite the bottom and a flange surrounding the opening. A forming station for making sealing rings includes a device for feeding a sheet from a reel. A coupling station couples each ring to a capsule body at the respective flange. A welding station welds the rings to respective capsule bodies. Groups of receiving seats receive the capsule bodies. An etching device etches pre-cutting lines along the edges of the rings, so that a central portion of the rings is detached from the etched sheet. Detaching elements detach from the sheet the rings that had been etched onto the sheet and bring them into contact with the flange at the coupling station. The etching device operates remotely and separately from the coupling station.

A beverage pod is assembled to allow the upper extension of the filter to separate from the upper rim of the container upon an application of force upon the extension. An energy director may be provided between the extension and the rim such that when a linear vertical high-frequency energy is applied to the energy director, the energy director may melt and releasably join the extension to the rim. At least one of the extension and/or the rim may have an energy director protruding therefrom. Separating the extension from the rim may form a gap between the extension and the rim to allow the beverage formed within the pod to drain therethrough.

A perforable beverage capsule is provided and comprises a generally frustoconical body having a sidewall closed at one end by a piercable inlet wall through which hot water can be injected in use. The end of the sidewall opposite the inlet wall has a rim, and a scaling ring is provided.

The invention relates to a single serve capsule (1) for preparing a beverage in a beverage preparation machine, said single serve capsule (1) having a liquid-tight base element (2) having a cavity (3) for receiving a beverage raw material and a capsule cover (4) sealing the cavity (3).

A capsule for use in a coffee machine having a brew chamber is formed from a ductile metal such as aluminium. The capsule has a generally frusto-conical form with an upper surface and a lower surface, an annular flange being provided at the lower surface. An annular seal is provided on the annular flange having first and second layers, wherein the first layer comprises long, well-bound fibres of a cellulose material.
