Some embodiments provide a container and retaining system that includes a container, a handle, and a retaining apparatus. The handle is coupled to the container. The retaining apparatus includes a base. The retaining apparatus also includes a first coupling member having a first handle retaining portion and a second coupling member having a second handle retaining portion. The first coupling member and the second coupling member extend downwardly from the base. The retaining apparatus also includes a first retaining arm, a second retaining arm, and a third retaining arm extending upwardly from the base. The first retaining arm, the second retaining arm, and the third retaining arm are configured to retain an object. The retaining apparatus is configured to be coupled to the container by the first coupling member and the second coupling member.

Some embodiments provide a container and retaining system that includes a container, a handle, and a retaining apparatus. The handle is coupled to the container. Convertible fishing rod carriers may include an elongate telescoping portion configured to house one or more fishing rods and an enlarged housing configured to accommodate reels of the one or more fishing rods. Carriers described herein may be convertible between a portable configuration, in which the carrier maybe transported by hand, and a mounted configuration, in which the carrier is secured to a vehicle rack. In the mounted configuration, some examples include a locking feature configured to prevent removal of the carrier from the rack.

A locking mechanism for a rod holder. The locking mechanism includes a first locking member having first locking member teeth, a second locking member having second locking member teeth and is selectively movable relative to the first locking member between locked and unlocked positions, a rod engagement member adapted to engage an end of a rod and slidably engaged with the second locking member, and a locking actuator adapted to selectively move the second locking member between the locked and unlocked positions. When the second locking member is disposed in the unlocked position, the rod engagement member is adapted to co-rotate with the second locking member relative to the first locking member. When the second locking member is disposed in the locked position, the second locking member and the rod engagement member are restricted from rotating relative to the first locking member.

A locking mechanism for a rod holder. The locking mechanism includes a first locking member having first locking member teeth, a second locking member having second locking member teeth and is selectively movable relative to the first locking member between locked and unlocked positions, a rod engagement member adapted to engage an end of a rod and slidably engaged with the second locking member, and a locking actuator adapted to selectively move the second locking member between the locked and unlocked positions. A storage device for holding at least one elongate article includes a wall having an interior wall surface and an exterior wall surface, the wall being deformable about a longitudinal axis between an open configuration and a closed configuration, the closed configuration defining a longitudinally extending cavity; and at least one retainer clip coupled to, or integrally formed with, the interior wall surface, the retainer clip(s) being configured to receive and retain the elongate article(s) in a generally longitudinally extending orientation. In the closed configuration, the retainer clip(s) and any elongate article(s) retained by the retainer clip(s) are located within the cavity. In the open configuration, access is provided to the retainer clip(s) thereby allowing the elongate article(s) to be received and removed from the retainer clip(s).
