Airbag chute and substrate assembly and method of manufacturing the same
12179686 · 2024-12-31 · ·

A method of manufacturing a chute panel of an airbag assembly. The method comprises forming a substrate from a material with the substrate comprising a plurality of projections projecting from a first surface of the substrate. A living hinge including a plurality of apertures is secured to the substrate with at least portion of the apertures mating with a portion of the projections of the substrate to secure the hinge to the substrate. A chute door is formed onto the substrate and onto the hinge secured to the substrate. A chute is formed onto the substrate with a portion of the chute interacting with a portion of the plurality of projections of the substrate, thereby forming a chute panel of an airbag assembly.

A passenger seat air bag includes: a bag main body; and a tether arranged within the bag main body, wherein: the bag main body includes a passenger side wall portion and a peripheral wall portion, the peripheral wall portion including a gas supply opening so opened up as to enable the inflating gas to flow therethrough and having a peripheral edge mountable onto the storage portion side; the tether has a back end side connected to the vicinity of the center of the passenger side wall portion to thereby restrict the distance of the passenger side wall portion from the gas supply opening; and a cover sheet formed of a belt-shaped flexible sheet member, the front end side of the cover sheet being connected to the front edge side of the gas supply opening, and the back end side thereof being connected to the tether.

Seatback with side airbag energy management system

A seatback assembly includes a seatback frame with an airbag deployment system coupled to a side member thereof. The airbag deployment system includes an airbag configured to deploy outwardly at a deployment force. A back panel includes a side member that at least partially covers the airbag deployment system in assembly. The side member includes a notch disposed adjacent to the airbag deployment system which separates a rear portion of the back panel from an airbag door configured to outwardly flex to an open position under the deployment force of the airbag deployment system. An adhesive patch is partially disposed over the notch and includes an adhesive layer adhered to the rear portion of the back panel and the airbag door of the back panel to tether the airbag door to the back panel and control the opening of the airbag door under the deployment force of the airbag.

Airbag cover with breakaway-resistant features

An airbag cover can include a sidewall to couple the airbag cover with a housing of an airbag assembly. The airbag cover can further include a panel adjoined to the sidewall at a hinge, and the panel can cover at least a portion of an opening defined by the housing through which an airbag positioned in the housing is deployable when the airbag cover is coupled to the housing. The airbag cover can include one or more tear seams that are breakable by the airbag as the airbag is deployed to form at least a portion of the panel into a door that rotates about the hinge to permit egress of the airbag. The airbag cover can further include a stress-relief region in the sidewall that is laterally adjacent to the hinge, and the stress-relief region can flex as the door rotates about the hinge to inhibit the door from separating from the sidewall during deployment of the airbag.

Airbag cover and manufacturing method for airbag cover

The present disclosure relates to an airbag cover, which comprises at least one door portion adapted to be opened to allow at least a portion of an airbag to be deployed, at least one hinge portion located adjacent to a side of the door portion and being adapted to provide a hinge for the door portion when opening, and at least one reinforcement portion at least partly surrounding the at least one door portion and the at least one hinge portion. The airbag cover comprises a mesh member, a first portion of the mesh member being located in the at least one reinforcement portion and a second portion of the mesh member being located in the at least one hinge portion. The at least one reinforcement portion comprises at least one rib protruding in a first direction (D.sub.1).
