MOTOR-ADJUSTABLE STEERING COLUMN FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE

A motor-adjustable steering column for a motor vehicle has an outer casing which is held by a support unit that is attachable to a vehicle body. An actuator unit is received in the outer casing to adjust in the longitudinal direction. A steering spindle is coaxially and rotatably mounted in a casing tube in the actuator unit. An adjustment drive and an energy absorbing installation are disposed between the outer casing and the actuator unit. The adjustment drive has a spindle mechanism with a threaded spindle which is rotatably drivable by an electric servomotor engaged in a spindle nut. The energy absorbing installation has at least one energy absorbing element at least indirectly disposed between the spindle nut and the actuator unit. The spindle nut or the threaded spindle has at least one forming element which operatively engages with the energy absorbing element and is plastically deformable.

STEERING COLUMN FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE

A steering column may include a casing unit that can be connected to a body of a motor vehicle. A steering spindle may be rotatably mounted in the casing unit about a longitudinal axis. The casing unit may have an inner casing that is received in an outer casing so as to be telescopically adjustable in a direction of the longitudinal axis. A clamping device may be switchable between a fixing position in which it fixes the inner casing relative to the outer casing and a release position in which it allows telescopic adjustment of the inner casing relative to the outer casing. An energy absorption device may include a deformation element arranged between the inner casing and the outer casing. The casing unit may comprise a cable mounting that includes a fastening element for holding a cable and that is at least partly formed as a deformation element.

The stow release assembly also includes a lower jacket, the upper jacket translatable relative to the lower jacket, the upper jacket translatable between a retracted range and a stowed range. The stow release assembly further includes an electromechanical blocking element coupled to a stationary component of the steering column assembly and moveable between an extended position and a retracted position, the electromechanical blocking element selectively preventing translation of the upper jacket at a plurality of translation positions.

COMPOUND ENERGY ABSORPTION SYSTEMS FOR STEERING COLUMNS

A compound energy absorption system for a steering column may include different first and second energy absorption mechanisms. The first energy absorption mechanism may involve a slide that deforms a deformation strip in a crash event. The second energy absorption mechanism may involve an energy absorbing strap and a carrier, with the energy absorbing strap being configured to bend and/or tear in a crash event. The energy absorbing strap, the carrier, the deformation strip, and the slide may be packaged compactly in series along an inner jacket tube of the steering column such that the carrier and the deformation strip move relative to the slide and a portion of the energy absorbing strap in a crash event. A pyrotechnic switch, a solenoid, or the like may selectively couple or decouple the second energy absorption mechanism depending on the severity or anticipated severity of a crash event.

Long hole portions that extend in the axial direction and are each formed of a telescopic long hole and a shock absorbing long hole are formed in the first suspended plate-like portion and the second suspended plate-like portion respectively. A telescopic stopper is provided in at least either one of the long hole portions. An inclined region including a plurality of consecutive inclined sides and the vertical size of which gradually becomes narrow is provided in the other long hole portion.

The present invention relates to a steering column for a vehicle. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a steering column for a vehicle includes: an outer column including a pair of distance parts protruding from the outer surface of the outer column and facing each other, and an outer circumferential surface having a partially cut-out portion between the pair of the distance parts; an inner column coupled to an inside of the outer column and provided movably in an shaft direction; and a telescopic member formed to absorb an impact load upon a vehicle collision and coupled with the inner column, wherein the telescopic member includes: a fixed gear coupled to the inner column and provided movably in the shaft direction together with the inner column when the inner column moves; a movable gear provided to fix the inner column after the inner column moves in the shaft direction, and provided with a plurality of gear teeth coupled to slit holes of the fixed gear; and an elastic support coupled with the movable gear to provide a fixing force in a direction toward the inner column, and provided so that the movable gear and the fixed gear are coupled with each other, wherein when an impact is applied to the vehicle, the fixed gear is formed to absorb the impact load by causing the inner column to move a predetermined distance and come into contact with a portion of the fixed gear.

A steering column may include an inner casing tube that rotatably mounts a steering shaft, an outer casing unit in which the inner casing tube is displaceable and fixable in an axial direction, and an energy absorption device operatively disposed between the casing tube and the casing unit. The energy absorption device absorbs at least some energy in a crash event when the casing tube is telescopically displaced relative to the casing unit. The energy absorption device may have at least two deformation strips fastened to the casing tube, and a deformation slide may be disposed on each strip. Each deformation slide may be connected to the casing unit and may encompass and jam external narrow sides of the respective deformation strip so that each deformation slide deforms the respective deformation strip when the deformation slide in a crash event is displaced in the axial direction on the deformation strip.
