Knee airbag for a vehicle
12049186 · 2024-07-30 · ·

A knee airbag includes a front panel, rear panel coupled to the front panel to define an inflation chamber, and an intermediate panel between the front panel and the rear panel and within the inflation chamber. The intermediate panel is connected to the front panel and the rear panel at various locations between a proximal end and a distal end of the intermediate panel to control an inflated configuration of the knee airbag. First and second suspension portions suspend the proximal end of the intermediate panel between the front panel and the rear panel and are permeable to the passage of inflation gases. The first suspension portion extends between the front panel and the proximal end of the intermediate panel. The second suspension portion extends between the rear panel and the proximal end of the intermediate panel. An inflator for inflating the knee airbag is disposed in the inflation chamber at a proximal end of the knee airbag. An inflation gas diffusing arrangement is disposed in the inflation chamber between the inflator and the proximal end of the intermediate panel.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a hollow weave airbag wherein gas leakage from cut surfaces of a hollow weave airbag formed by lamination can be suppressed and internal pressure retention can be improved. Provided is a hollow weave airbag that is formed in an expandable bag shape by weaving at least two pieces of fabric, wherein: the hollow weave airbag includes an outer peripheral joining part positioned on the outer periphery of an expanding part, and an outer edge part extending to the outside of the outer peripheral joining part; at least part of the outer peripheral joining part and/or the outer edge part is provided with a twill-like structure area formed from a single weave structure; the twill-like structure area is configured such that when a continuous connection line is formed by tying peak crossover points or valley crossover points in any of the up, down, left, and right directions in a minimum unit mapping for weave structure mapping, the connection line can extend diagonally in the weave structure mapping when viewed as a whole; and the outer surface of the hollow weave airbag is formed by lamination.

Air-bags

An air-bag for a motor vehicle is formed from first and second superposed layers of fabric, each woven from a plurality of yarns. The layers of fabric are connected to each other at least partially through interweaving of the yarns of the two layers with each other. The air-bag includes at least one inflatable region, in which the two layers of fabric are substantially not connected to each other, and at least one non-inflatable region. There is a first number of crossing points of yarns that form the one layer of fabric, and there is a second number of connections between the two layers, wherein at each connection a yarn of the layer of fabric extends across to the other layer and passes over the far side of the a yarn of the other layer, and wherein the second number is no more than 0.0033 times the first number.

A curtain airbag for a vehicle may include a curtain airbag cushion including a rear panel disposed at a door window side of the vehicle and a front panel disposed inside the vehicle, a protrusion formed by bending the curtain airbag cushion to protrude toward the inside of the vehicle, and connections for attaching upper and lower ends of a protruding part of the protrusion.

Fabric with woven markers

Markings visible by automatic optically guided cutting equipment are provided in a fabric such as a double layer fabric for one-piece-woven air bags by groups of black marker weft yarns which contrast with the other (white) weft yarns and warp yarns. The marker weft yarns emerge onto the upper face of the fabric only in predetermined marker areas spaced apart in the warp direction by other white weft yarns to afford optically identifiable markings spaced apart along said weft yarns and spaced apart along the direction of the warp yarns. The arrangement avoids the need for black warp yarns and thus avoids the inconveniences and loom down-time associated with required alterations to the locations of such optically detectable marker areas in the fabric web.

Safety device

A safety device for use in a vehicle includes an air-bag inflatable by a gas source. At least part of the air-bag is woven and includes a plurality of generally parallel woven yarns. An elongate tether is attached to the air-bag by an attachment arrangement including a first portion in which part of the tether passes between two adjacent yarns of the air-bag from one side to another side of the air-bag and partly around at least two adjacent yarns on one side of the air-bag. The arrangement incorporates a second portion in which the tether is interwoven with a pre-determined number of single adjacent yarns of the air-bag. The arrangement incorporates a third portion in which the tether passes between two adjacent yarns of the air-bag from one side to another side of the air-bag and partly around at least two adjacent yarns on one side of the air-bag.

Curtain airbag with package maintaining structure

An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes a curtain airbag having a packaged condition in which the curtain airbag is rolled and/or folded to be installed along a roof rail in a vehicle. The curtain airbag is configured to be inflated and deployed along a side structure of the vehicle structure. The curtain airbag includes a channel configured to receive a package maintaining structure configured to enforce a predetermined configuration of the curtain airbag in the packaged condition.

AIR BAG DEVICE

An airbag apparatus which is capable of restraining an occupant in a stable position even during an oblique collision, and which is capable of suppressing an injury value of the occupant. An airbag apparatus 100 restrains an occupant 132 of a vehicle. The airbag apparatus 100 is provided with: a main bag 112 which is bag-shaped and inflates and deploys in front of a front passenger seat 104 of the vehicle; and a center bag 114 which is bag-shaped and inflates and deploys on an inner side of the main bag 112 in a vehicle width direction. The center bag 114 has a rear region 160 which extends further towards a rear of the vehicle than the main bag 112, and a curved surface 164, which projects towards a main bag 112 side in the vehicle width direction, is formed on the rear region 160.
