Ether-Based Lubricant Compositions, Methods and Uses

The present invention provides a lubricant composition for an internal combustion engine comprising a base oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the base oil comprises an ether base stock of formula (A): where: R.sub.a and R.sub.b are aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups and may be the same or different; wherein at least one of R.sub.a and R.sub.b is branched-chain alkyl, alkoxy-substituted-alkyl or cycloalkyl-substituted-alkyl; the lubricant composition further comprising: i) at least one molybdenum compound as a lubricant additive which is present, on a molybdenum element basis, in an amount of at least 0.06% by weight of the lubricant composition; or ii) at least one polymethacrylate compound as a lubricant additive which is present in an amount of from 0.1 to 7.5% by weight of the lubricant composition. The lubricant composition may be used for lubricating a surface in an internal combustion engine as well as for improving the fuel economy performance and/or piston cleanliness performance and/or turbocharger cleanliness performance of an engine and/or a vehicle, such as an automotive vehicle associated with an internal combustion engine.

ALIPHATIC TETRAHEDRAL BORATE COMPOUNDS FOR FULLY FORMULATED LUBRICATING COMPOSITIONS

A fully-formulating lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity; an ionic tetrahedral borate compound including a tetrahedral borate anion having a boron atom with two bidentate di-oxo ligands both being a linear C18-tartrimide; a first dispersant comprising a conventional ammonium substituted polyisobutenyl succinimide compound having a polyisobutenyl number average molecular weight of 750 to 2,500; a second dispersant comprising an ammonium substituted polyisobutenyl succinimde compound having an N:CO ratio of 1.8 and a polyisobutylenyl number average molecular weight of 750 to 2,500, wherein one or more of the first dispersant and the second dispersant are in cationic form. The fully formulated lubricating composition including one or more performance additives.

ALIPHATIC TETRAHEDRAL BORATE COMPOUNDS FOR LUBRICATING COMPOSITIONS

An additive for a lubricating composition includes an ionic tetrahedral borate compound which includes a cation and a tetrahedral borate anion having a boron atom, the boron atom has at least one aliphatic bidentate di-oxo ligand. The cation may be selected to provide detergent and/or dispersant and/or antioxidant properties to a lubricating composition.

LUBRICATING COMPOSITION COMPRISING SULFONATE DETERGENT AND ASHLESS HYDROCARBYL PHENOLIC COMPOUND

The disclosed technology provides lubricating compositions comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity, an alkaline earth metal sulfonate detergent having a metal ratio of at least 10, in an amount to contribute 3 to 14 g KOH/kg of TBN to the lubricating composition, an ashless, sulfur free, hydrocarbyl phenolic compound in an amount of 0.4 to about 6.0 weight percent (wt %) of the composition, and an ashless dispersant; wherein the lubricating composition has total ash of 0.3 to 1.8 wt %, total detergent soap of 0.1 to 1.2 wt % and wherein the lubricating composition contains less than 0.1 wt % of a sulfur-containing phenolic detergent. The disclosed technology further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device (such as an internal combustion engine) with the lubricating composition. The disclosed technology further relates to the use of the of the lubricating composition in a heavy duty diesel internal combustion engine to improve control of at least one of the following (i) fuel economy, (ii) corrosion, (iii) cleanliness, and (iv) bore wear.

Lubricating composition containing an oxyalkylated aromatic polyol compound

The disclosed technology provides a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 wt % to 10 wt % of an oxyalkylated aromatic polyol compound, wherein the aromatic compound has at least one alkoxy group represented by OR.sup.1 group, R.sup.1 is hydroxyalkyl, or a (poly)ether group, and either: at least one hydroxyl group, or at least one alkoxy group represented by OR.sup.1 group, where R.sup.1 is alkyl, or a (poly)ether group, or at least one oxyalkyl group represented by OR.sup.1, where R.sup.1 is hydroxyalkyl or a (poly)ether group. A gun oil composition adapted specifically for the needs and requirements of modern firearms. The gun oil composition improves lubricity and gun performance under normal and extreme heat and pressure, minimizes and largely prevents the build-up of carbon and debris fouling on metal and non-metal components of the firearm, and substantially reduces cleaning time, while providing increased protection against environmental components such as dust, dirt and rust. The gun oil composition can include a base oil having at least a high viscosity index, an oil having at least a medium viscosity index with a detergent additive, a low viscosity penetrating oil, and a sulfurized ester.

Compositions and use thereof for metal shaping

The present invention provides metal shaping compositions and processes for using same for shaping metal substrates. Specifically, the metal shaping composition discussed herein are environmentally-friendly, water-containing composition which provide excellent lubricity under metal shaping process conditions while also providing excellent rust protection. The metal shaping compositions discussed herein contain (i) a film-forming lubricant capable of being solubilized into water in dispersible or emulsifiable form and which softens at a temperature of about 80 to about 200 C.; (ii) a film forming polymeric binder capable of being solubilized into water in dispersible or emulsifiable form; (iii) a solid lubricant capable of being solubilized into water in dispersible or emulsifiable form; and (iv) a corrosion inhibitor.
