Hydrogen gas sensors based on nanoparticle-decorated, patterned carbon nanotube ropes
Nanoparticle(NP)-decorated carbon nanotube (CNT) ropes used as sensing elements for hydrogen gas (H.sub.2) chemiresistors are described herein. The NP-decorated CNT rope sensors were prepared by dielectrophoretic deposition of a single semiconducting CNT rope followed by the electrodeposition of metal nanoparticles to highly disperse said nanoparticles on the CNT surfaces. The rope sensors produced a relative resistance change 20-30 times larger than what was observed at single, pure Pd nanowires. Thus, the rope sensors improved upon all H.sub.2 sensing metrics (speed, dynamic range, and limit-of-detection) relative to single Pd nanowires.
Wear-resistant coating
A method of forming a wear-resistant coating on an article includes depositing a chromium coating on a substrate of the article, and subsequently heating the coated article to enhance a plurality of through-cracks within the chromium coating. The method further includes applying a liquid filler material to the coated article such that at least one of the plurality of through-cracks is at least partially occupied by the filler material, and solidifying the liquid filler material.

Using piezoelectric electrodes as active surfaces for electroplating process
Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) mesh-membrane nebulizers are described. The MEMS mesh-membrane nebulizers may include a piezoelectric MEMS mesh membrane. The piezoelectric MEMS mesh membrane may include a piezoelectric active layer patterned with openings for making droplets. One electrode of the piezoelectric MEMS mesh membrane may serve as an electrode for electroplating. Activation of the piezoelectric MEMS mesh membrane may generate droplets suitable for delivery of medicines or other uses.
Electrochemical three-dimensional printing and soldering
A hydrogen evolution assisted electroplating nozzle includes a nozzle tip configured to interface with a portion of a substructure. The nozzle also includes an inner coaxial tube connected to a reservoir containing an electrolyte and an anode, the inner coaxial tube configured to dispense the electrolyte through the nozzle tip onto the portion of the substructure. The nozzle also includes an outer coaxial tube encompassing the inner coaxial tube, the outer coaxial tube configured to extract the electrolyte from the portion of the substructure. The nozzle also includes at least one contact pin configured to make electrical contact with a conductive track on the substrate.
Method for manufacturing wiring board
First, a patterned substrate including an insulating substrate, a conductive seed layer, and an insulating layer is prepared. The seed layer is disposed on the insulating substrate, and consists of a first part having a predetermined pattern corresponding to the wiring pattern and a second part as a part other than the first part. The insulating layer is disposed on the second part of the seed layer. Subsequently, a metal layer having a thickness larger than a thickness of the insulating layer is formed on the first part of the seed layer. Here, a voltage is applied between an anode and the seed layer while a resin film containing a metal ion-containing solution is disposed between the patterned substrate and the anode and the resin film and the seed layer are brought into pressure contact. Subsequently, the insulating layer and the second part of the seed layer are removed.
