A tribological system, including a main body and a sandwich lubrication, wherein the sandwich lubrication includes a binder-free solid lubricant layer including a solid lubricant, and a lubricant layer including a lubricant. The binder-free solid lubricant layer and the lubricant layer are present as separate layers on the main body and the mass ratio of solid lubricant to lubricant is at most 0.05:1. The solid lubricant includes polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), metal sulfide, graphite, graphene, boron nitride (hexagonal), calcium phosphate, silicate, layered silicate, or mixtures thereof.

Provided are a method for simultaneously and stably dispersing spherical nanoparticles in an oil medium by using layered nanosheets and an application thereof. The method comprises: (1) mixing the layered nanosheets and oil-soluble alkylamines to obtain a first mixture containing intercalated/exfoliated nano sheets; (2) mixing spherical nanoparticles and the oil medium to obtain a second mixture; and (3) mixing the first mixture, the second mixture and the oil medium to obtain a third mixture.

METHOD OF PREPARING NANOSHEET TUNGSTEN DISULFIDE

A method of preparing a nanosheet tungsten disulfide. The method includes: heating a mixture including tungsten hexachloride, a sulfur source, and a surface modifier to a temperature of between 100 and 200 C. for at least 60 min. The sulfur source is thioacetamide or thiourea. The surface modifier is a C.sub.6-40 straight-chain or branched fatty acid, aliphatic amine, or a mixture thereof.

A water based dispersion that includes lubricating nanoparticles. The lubricating nanoparticles can be provided by at least one intercalation nanoparticle of a metal chalcogenide in dispersion with the water base. The at least one intercalation nanoparticle may have a geometry that is fullerene-like, tubular-like structure or be substantially spherical or the intercalation nanoparticles may include particles have each of the aforementioned geometries. The intercalation nanoparticle is surface treated with a dispersant that is water soluble and includes a polar functional group.
