Thermocleavable friction modifiers and methods thereof
Certain embodiments of the invention provide a lubricating oil composition comprising a lubricating oil base stock and a compound of formula (I): ##STR00001##
or a salt thereof, wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 have any of the values defined in the specification, as well as methods of use thereof.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL COMPOSITION
An automatic transmission oil composition includes 80 to 85 wt % of a base oil, 1 to 5 wt % of metallocene polyalphaolefin, 1 to 5 wt % of a detergent-dispersant, 0.01 to 0.03 wt % of a trinuclear molybdenum-based dialkyldithiocarbamate friction modifier, 3 to 10 wt % of a viscosity modifier, and 3 to 5 wt % of an anti-wear additive. The automatic transmission oil composition is prepared by mixing base oil with metallocene polyalphaolefin and a trinuclear molybdenum-based dialkyldithiocarbamate friction modifier at specific mixing ratios, whereby the dynamic friction coefficient can be maintained at an equivalent level and the metal friction coefficient can be reduced, thus improving the power transfer efficiency between transmission metals and fuel economy (an improvement of 1.5% or more), increasing durability, and minimizing energy loss.
Gear oil composition
The present invention relates to a gear oil composition containing a base stock and at least 0.01 wt % of a friction reducing additive which comprises a glycerol and/or polyglycerol C.sub.12 to C.sub.24 saturated fatty ester. The gear oil composition is suitable for use in gear boxes in automotive, industrial and marine applications.
Method and composition for preventing or reducing engine knock and pre-ignition in high compression spark ignition engines
A method for preventing or reducing engine knock or pre-ignition in a high compression spark ignition engine lubricated with a lubricating oil by introducing to a combustion chamber of the engine from 0.1 to 5% by volume of the gasoline used a lubricating oil as a formulated oil, said formulated oil having a composition comprising (i) a major amount of a lubricating oil base stock comprising at least 80% by weight of one branched ester having at least 15% of the total carbons in the form of methyl groups, and (ii) a minor amount of at least one ashless amine phosphate antiwear additive. Also provided is a lubricating engine oil for high compression spark ignition engines including (i) a major amount of a lubricating oil base stock comprising at least 80% by weight formula I below: ##STR00001##
esterified (per OH basis) with 25 to 100% isobutyric acid and 0 to 75% 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid, wherein R is a H, methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, or isobutyl, and (ii) a minor amount of at least one amine phosphate ashless antiwear additive.
METALWORKING FORMULATIONS WITH CORROSION INHIBITOR FORMULATIONS
Metalworking formulations and corrosion inhibitor formulations are provided. The metalworking fluids have excellent performance as coolants in the manufacture of thin-walled metal containers such as aluminum beverage cans.
LUBRICANT AND METHOD OF PREPARING THE SAME
A lubricant, including, by weight: 80-85 parts of a base oil; 1-2 parts of a methyl-silicone oil; 1-2 parts of polymethacrylate; 2-4 parts of pentaerythritol polyisobutylene succinate; 1-2 parts of di-n-butyl phosphite; 2-3 parts of butylhydroxytoluene; 2-4 parts of an ethylene-propylene copolymer; 1-2 parts of an alkenyl succinate; and 3-5 parts of copper nanoparticles. A method of preparing the lubricant includes: adding the base oil, the methyl-silicone oil, the polymethacrylate, the ethylene-propylene copolymer, the butylhydroxytoluene, the alkenyl succinate to a reactor, and stirring a resulting first mixture under normal temperature and pressure at 300-400 rpm for 3-4 hours, to yield a primary product; and adding the di-n-butyl phosphite, the pentaerythritol polyisobutylene succinate, and the copper nanoparticles to the primary product, and stirring a resulting second mixture at 150-250 rpm for 2-2.5 hours.
Fluid with polyalkylene glycol and unsaturated ester
A fluid contains a base oil consisting of an alcohol-initiated polyalkylene glycol where polyalkylene glycol component is selected from a homopolymer of 1,2-butylene oxide and copolymer of 1,2-butylene oxide and propylene oxide; a glycerol-initiated unsaturated ester that is free of tertiary carbon atoms and quaternary carbon atoms; and an antioxidant.
