Renewable Base Oil in Lubricant Formulations

A C.sub.31 renewable base oil is disclosed that is suitable as a base oil to provide low viscosity base oils, such as having both low Noack volatility and low CCS-30 C. viscosity and/or to provide low viscosity base oils at the same time having a combination of acceptable HTHS and KV100 to allow the industry's base oil blenders to formulate high quality engine oils, such as SAE grade 0W-20, 0W-16, 0W-12 or 0W-8.

Grease compositions for low temperature operation

Grease compositions are provided that can have one or more unexpectedly beneficial low temperature properties even though the grease compositions are formed from lower value components that traditional low temperature greases. The unexpectedly beneficial low temperature properties can be achieved in part by grease compositions that include a naphthenic base stock having a viscosity index of roughly 120 or less and/or a pour point of 20 C. or more while having a naphthenes content of 60 wt % or more. In some aspects, the naphthenic base stock can have an aromatics content of 20 wt % or less.

Extreme pressure additives with improved copper corrosion

A sulfurized extreme pressure additive and lubricant including the same providing good copper corrosion and seal compatibility.

Mineral base oil and lubricating oil composition

Provided is a mineral base oil having a kinematic viscosity at 40 C. of 4.0 mm.sup.2/s or more and less than 6.0 mm.sup.2/s, a kinematic viscosity at 100 C. of 1.0 mm.sup.2/s or more and less than 2.0 mm.sup.2/s, and a flash point of 140 C. or higher. A lubricating oil composition containing the mineral base oil has a high flash point while having a low viscosity and thus having excellent fuel-saving performance when used as a driving system oil and the like.

LOW VISCOSITY LUBRICATING OILS WITH IMPROVED OXIDATIVE STABILITY AND TRACTION PERFORMANCE

Provided is lubricating oil composition including from 10 to 90 wt % of a base stock comprising a C28-C32 hydrocarbon fraction (dimers) and optionally a C42-C48 hydrocarbon fraction (trimers) produced by oligomerization of a linear C14 mono-olefin, a linear C16 mono-olefin, or a mixture thereof, in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, and the remainder of the composition including one or more lubricating oil additives. The lubricating oil composition provides an oxidative stability of greater than 100 hours (time to 200% KV@40 deg. C. increase) and a mini traction machine (MTM) average traction coefficient at 100 deg. C. of less than 0.0081.

Fluid with polyalkylene glycol and unsaturated ester

A fluid contains a base oil consisting of an alcohol-initiated polyalkylene glycol where polyalkylene glycol component is selected from a homopolymer of 1,2-butylene oxide and copolymer of 1,2-butylene oxide and propylene oxide; a glycerol-initiated unsaturated ester that is free of tertiary carbon atoms and quaternary carbon atoms; and an antioxidant.
